J.Dub played the entire playoffs with a torn wrist.

Remember in the WCF when everyone (myself included) was making fun of J.Dub for only being able to drive left?

Oklahoma City Thunder guard/forward Jalen Williams underwent a successful procedure to address a torn scapholunate ligament in his right wrist, the team announced today. He will be re-evaluated in approximately 12 weeks.

Sorry to be a J.Dub fanboy again, but this piece of news went under the radar. Apparently, he tore the main ligament that connects his hand to his arm in a game against Phoenix before the playoffs began.

The injury happened during a victory over the Phoenix Suns in the final week of the regular season, according to Thunder podcaster Andrew Schlecht. Williams finished that game with 33 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 turnovers in 36 minutes — a do-it-all performance emblematic of the all-around impact he had throughout a campaign that earned him the first All-Star, All-NBA and All-Defensive honors of his young career.

This also maybe explains why a career 38% 3-point shooter shot 30% from 3 these playoffs.

I suffered this exact injury before the pandemic. Obviously, NBA players get better treatment than plebs like me, but it completely took me out of basketball for a couple years. I couldn't catch a basketball with that hand, I couldn't even dribble. Turning doorknobs, pushing myself out of the bath, lifting boxes if there were any sudden change in angle... all practically impossible. Before reconstructive surgery, I could still shoot, I just couldn't take any load on the wrist at all.

OKC was a lot better than casuals think. Maybe they'll prove it next season.

Lol no need to apologize. Playing the entire playoffs with a torn hand ligament is Kobe-level madness. So far beyond the realm of the average Gen Z player.

I don’t want to rank the OKC Thunder players but all I know is I get significantly more enjoyment out of watching Jalen and Chet than SGA (this vid explains a big reason why:

When Jalen adds a little more wiggle and spin to his game he’s gonna be even more of a monster. Heck I wouldn’t put it past him to increase his leap somehow, as rare as that is.

I simply cant see how his standing vertical was the same as Chris Braun and his max vert was only an inch below Braun as well at the combine. The value of his jumps seems to be in distance and force, certainly not height.

He never complained because dude's a winner and a warrior. I made a comment in their non-mortem about it. The fact that he played the entire playoffs with it, my respect for him went way up as a competitor. I don't know how many more chips OKC will win, but having a guy like him as my number two would make me feel prettay, prettay, prettay good moving forward.

Shai has to decrease his usage just a bit to get Chet a few more touches, thus increasing his defensive energy just a bit. I feel like Cason is gonna add a lot of ish to his game along with Ajay fighting for minutes. Casuals and Denver’s improvement be damned, they’re gonna pimp slap the Association around again.

He was definitely playing below his normal level. I'm glad they won regardless. It's gonna be really hard to beat them.
