How big will LeBron's farewell tour be? How big SHOULD it be?

Post#1 » by ScrantonBulls » Thu Jul 3, 2025 5:09 am

It seems clear that this season may be LeBron's last. The old ball and chain Savannah is telling him to wrap it the up. Maybe he plays one more season after this.

The whole "farewell tour" thing got big because of Kobe. He announced his retirement and then got tributes at nearly every stadium. I remember his last game at the United Center. Pau Gasoline introduced him and the Bulls put together a video tribute. I'm believe most places had some type of tribute for him.

How big do you expect LeBron's farewell tour to be? He's the superior player and has had a longer career. He has been the have of the league for well over a decade. Do you expect video tributes for his last game at every stadium? I think that's how it will go. It would be disrespectful for that not to happen imo. It will be a big day when LeBron is no longer the face of the league. I hope the league honors him well.

It feels like LeBron has been on a farewell tour since the bubble championship. LeBron really just needs to retire at this point. The league needs to focus on their new and upcoming players rather than a 40 year old going downhill.

It would be pretty sick if he retired while being a top 10 player like he was last year. That would be legendary. Only downside is he isn't on a garbage team like Kobe was. Kobe was able to chuck like a madman that last season and nobody really cared because they were tanking. That made his final game really entertaining.

Its minimum two, maximum four, likely three more seasons with a big build up to his final season.

I would LOVE for LeBron to go out on top after winning a final championship.

I would love for it to be like, play out the season and just announce retirement once the season ends.

Imho, realisticly I can see him retiring within next 2-3 years window with all the fanfare and milking the tour and that year to be filled with obnoxious amounts of garbage spewed by the talking heads.
If The Decision is anything to go by, the farewell tour is gonna be a massive s…show of drooling over the achievements of LeBron constantly for a whole year, that is going to be one booooring season. In the end maybe I am being too harsh here but it is high time for the league to move away from constantly speaking about LeBron James.

Tough to say how long it will be, but we know it’ll be insufferable. Hopefully no longer than a single season.

Love him or hate him, you have to admit that the NBA is going to feel weird without LeBron James. Great player, great human being who doesn't get into trouble with the law.

I wouldn't mind a retirement tour at all. I think most fans want it.

This is going to be awful, insufferable and cringe beyond imagination.

Tim Duncan exited the league the right way and everyone should follow his example.

I wish Lebron would just go away, but you know he will turn his retirement tour into a 3 season Netflix special, as if anyone actually is sad to see the back of him and his team stacking.

Kobe's retirement tour was lightning in a bottle, and it worked because 1) he didn't overstay his welcome and 2) a player with his popularity and influence didn't deserve to go out shooting 30% with a bum Achilles and playing with Nick young and 20 year old D'Angelo Russell. Don't normalise the retirement tour.

The only thing insufferable is the hate so many of you have for him. Makes me laugh and cringe at the same time.

The farewell tour didn't get big because of Kobe. Kareem had one too. They put him in a rocking chair

LeBron will get his and it will be never ending. His ego is huge.

Just like Kobe, LeBron has a huge ego. He will milk that farewell tour.

To be fair to LeBron, he deserves to be in the league right now and deserves the money he is getting unlike Kobe after 2013.

I just don't like announcing your retirement before the season. Announce it with a few games left in the regular season or just go Duncan's route.

The league may say farewell to LeBron but a hater's heart never will...

Not sure he will get the same reaction Kobe got. We are genuinely more cynical as a society in 2025 than we were in 2016.

If he would just let it happen organically it would be tasteful and i think every NBA city would do well by him, unfortunately, i dont see him and his team not putting their fingerprints on it.

LeBron doesn’t care what Savannah wants. He’s gonna make his own choices. She said she didn’t want to go to Miami in 2011 and they went anyway.

Longer career, yes, superior player absolutely NOT ... also the Black Mamba is much more loved by the people...

All that said, Lebron deserves a farewell tour too if he wants. Not sure he wants really to do it, by the way...

Why does Lebron deserve the money and Kobe not ? It's not like lebron is putting the world on fire... He is a net negative for the Lakers, which offered Kobe the max to say thank you to him for his FIVE Championships , 7 Finals , his big time dedication , and countless great moments for the Franchise. Also, like Lebron, Kobe was a big cash cow for the Buss family, thanks to his popularity worldwide. So he deserved the money just like Lebron, if not more...

It will be much bigger than we all can suffer.
Amount of cringe will be insufferable.

And I'm not your regular LeBron hater, I try to stay away from his threads (not always successfully, though), but even judging by amount of headlines and stories "leaked" by "sources" to his pals like Windy the last couple of days - now multiply it by 250K and this will be the retirement tour. Yikes.
