My question is why leave Dallas for Denver? Isn’t it a lateral move? Assistant in Dallas, now an assistant in Denver.

Associate Head Coach. Yup. Frank Vogel replaced Sean Sweeney as Kidd's top assistant who went to San Antonio.

Gotcha. So that means Dudley couldn't get that promotion in Dallas, so he went and got it in Denver.

Its not easy for regular assistants to compete with championship winning head coaches for associate head coach.

Dudley could have stayed in Dallas for sure, but like you said, he gets a promotion and more money probably, with hopefully a faster track to interviews for head coaching jobs. Joe Mazzulla, Mitch Johnson and Will Hardy are kind of not really the norm in terms of getting NBA jobs as all are in their thirties and none were the top assistant for their clubs. Crazy all three have ties to either Boston or San Antonio as well. Even Jordan Ott wasn't Kenny Atkinson's top assistant in Cleveland (Johnnie Bryant was) before getting the Phoenix job.

Another reason for Dudley to do it, is he gets to expand his network organizationally and maybe learn new schemes to weave into his own portfolio. He's basically been with Kidd in some capacity for the last six years (playing for the Lakers and then right into coaching).

From what I have heard, he was highly sought after, so another W for the Nugs in the offseason.

He’s kind of been one for a while now, good to make it official. Good on the Nugs.

It is also new contract, its their job, they get paid ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . Its not all about which team is stronger, tho I would rather be Nuggets coach than MAVS coach, I disagree that its lateral move.

If it allows him to grow as a coach, and if he felt he was needing a change in role and purpose, why wouldn't he jump at the opportunity? Looking forward to hearing what his role will be on the coaching staff.

The lead assistant gets the perk of an NBA 2K face scan and is shown sitting next to the head coach in the game. No brainer move.
