It's a stupid rule that makes the NBA seem like a joke league. What's next, end of game heaves are 10 points?
And people that complain about players not chucking the ball at the end of games are stupid too. Heaves happen all the time either way, most don't go in and most players only take about 2 per season.
Basically, this is a rule created for the people that have nostalgia goggles.

If the NBA can revise all the stats from previous seasons/eras retroactively using available video footage, I'm all for it. Otherwise it will just lead to stat inflation.

Why would they do that? That's a waste of time and it doesn't matter.
The NBA doesn't do that for any rule changes. The NBA isn't going back and reverting the 3 pointers made during the shortened line era into 2s.
Only NBA fans are so stat obsessed about every single little thing.

It is such a small amount that it wouldn’t affect 3 pt percentages at all unless you are like Jokic who broke the record of heaves in a season. Most superstars don’t even attempt heaves because they are selfish and scared it will ruin their percentages. Players like Curry and Jokic are not selfish they care about winnings.

Can they just **** off and stop tampering with meaningless rule changes? This does nothing except artificially inflate field goal percentages by a minimal amount.
Meanwhile the number and length of stoppages remain unaddressed

I actually think it will encourage more heaves. Now players are scared to take them

Teams already track field goal percentage without heaves anyway.
It will likely increase the attempts, but I also think heaves the are the most overrated highlight.

I am pretty sure everyone has data on how many heaves are taken and are missed.

Players aren't scared to take heaves. You just remember the ones that were made and wonder why more players don't take them.
Let's do some math.
Jokic took 22 heaves and made 2 last year.
Jokic has taken 50 heaves in his career and only made the 2 from last year.
Stephen Curry has taken 110 heaves and only made 6.
Trae Young made the same amount of heaves as Jokic and only has taken 16 heaves.
Throwing the ball aimlessly at the basket before crossing half-court isn't a skill.

Anthony Edwards 3pt% is about to go WAY up! (if regular season heaves don't count)
Edwards is the most unselfish person in America, and routinely heaves without care for his stats.

Just to put this into perspective. If a player shoots 38% from 3 on 5 attempts, and he takes one half-court shot every second game, it would be 35.5%. That is a lot when it comes to contracts. Then you have the summer league where this can go boinkers.

What are you b*tching for? The only way this would affect you is you wouldn't have to watch this 1,000x per season anymore:

I did the math on a few players (AE being one of them). His 3pt % goes up about .5%. Jokic went about 2%. Mikal Bridges about 1.5%. For Bridges, for example, he goes from 35% to 36.5%, which on paper means he’s going from -1% relative to league average to +.5%. Not sure what the weight of that is perception wise, but food for thought nonetheless.
The rule change gives players incentive to shoot those heaves, without worrying about their percentages, and consequently how those %’s will effect them come contract negotiation time.

Garbage rule changing. If it's a shot that garners a player points, it should count in terms of missing it too.

That’s my point not many take them only a select few don’t care about stats and shoot them like curry and Jokic.
