That's the 1st smart move Joe Dumars has made all Summer. That's a very good contract for someone of his skillset and should age very well if he can stay healthy.

That’s a lot for his production so far especially considering his last season but he has a good reputation and is still fairly young so he can still grow into it.

I dunno if his agent is really bad, ir if Herb just wants security and continuity early. I think he was gonna expire at age 28 after taking a bargain deal to begin with. He’s have been a highly sought after archetype in a quickly rising salary environment.

Now they gotta trade Williamson for impact players. Either that or activate some of the weight clauses they implemented when the extension was signed.

Murray is still injured, so teams would want to see how he looks after injury.
Williamson needed to be moved a long time ago. Now he has little value; I’ll be surprised if they could acquire a decent player and not another bloated contract.

All arrows point to Pels keeping Zion this year. No reason to move him with his value low. Might as well ride it out.

No one is offering anything of substance for Zion. If they want to move him, it’s gonna be not impressive.

No one is giving impact players for him. He looks out of shape already from a recent photo and has still some pending legal issues.

Zion offers some expected distribution of "substance" - and that would be the same for Pelicans and other teams at this point. The honeymoon period is over with Zion in NOP, so there is no love lost trading him. its jut a question of whether the fit makes sense for both teams.

As usual with the Pels, a lot will come down to health. Just two years ago they had 49 wins. Last year everyone was hurt.

His injury may have been a blessing in disguise for the Pelicans. He’s locked up pretty cheap for a long time now, and probably felt pressure to sign now in case further injury makes him lose more money.

It’s true injuries did play a big role but I liked the fit of that squad 2 seasons ago much better than now.

Is just a much better combination of high impact veterans mixed with young athletic talent and defense imo. DeJounte, Poole, Fears, Hawkins, Zion and Queen just seems like a ton of high volume one way skill overlap and possible over-reliance on Rookie production. There’s some talent there but the fit just seems iffy.
