Jazz Not Interested In Trading Lauri Markkanen

Post#1 » by Dan Z » Wed Jul 16, 2025 1:12 am

As per wiretap. Any thoughts?

The Utah Jazz do not intend to make Lauri Markkanen available in trade discussions, sources tell ESPN's Tim MacMahon. The Jazz have continued to get younger this offseason by trading John Collins and Collin Sexton while also buying out Jordan Clarkson.

They can sugarcoat it however they want. The truth of the matter is they probably can't trade him on that contract especially coming off such a poor season.

Is Markkanen okay with spending another year of his prime on a team that is basically tanking?

They made a mistake signing him to the Max. Not to say he's not worth it, I really like him. It just hamstrung their flexibility when he was in and out of the lineup then they just said "**** it" to go full tank with a third of the season left.

A healthy year will change the optics around him. Every team would love to have him if they aren't set at the 4. I know i was dream trading to every team with an iffy PF situation a couple years ago.

I think Ainge tried to trade him before his new contract and none of the deals were very good...? That's the impression that I got based on reports.

A monster Eurobasket performance in Aug/Sep would do wonders for his value and interest in him. Markkanen has had some crazy dominant performances when playing for team Finland.

they over estimated his value as a player who can barely play 60 games a year.

"Not very good" seems like it's a "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" situation, especially when Ainge is trying to extract as many pick as possible. Either way, I bet the Finnisher has a bounce back year.

If not he shouldn't have signed a 5 year extension with them last season.

I have no sympathy, he intentionally signed that deal 1 day after the deadline so he could not get traded last season.

To be fair, he'd be a fool to say no to $240M+. Technically it was an extension where they renegotiated his last year and added 25M+ on the contract he signed with Chicago as part of the S&T to Cleveland. With the way the new CBA is, he cashed in at the right time and his body can only hold up for 60 games.

Honestly, there will be a market for him this upcoming season provided he stays healthy and shows that he can still play well. It sucks that the Jazz have been tanking and honestly made a mistake in not flipping him when he had that all-star year, but oh well.

Nah, sorry F that. Money would have been the same if he signed a couple days earlier and subject to being traded by last years trade deadline. He made his decision, no sympathy.
