Who is going to win the Ben Simmons Sweepstakes?

Post#1 » by Karate Diop » Tue Jul 22, 2025 7:41 pm

It's crazy that we're already so deep into The Agency, but Ben still remains unsigned. What gives? Are teams just allergic to a connective passing hard-nosed multi-positional defender?

Seems odd that nobody would rush in to get BS on the cheap... On a large deal the risks are understandable (availability, lack of shooting) but on the min-min? Or something close to it - what gives?

Where should Ben go?

*Disclosure: Ben Simmons is one of my favorite players.

The 29 teams that don't sign him.
They're not Democrats. They don't want you to agree with them. They want to force you to pretend to agree with them.

That's communism.

If Boston wants a tank commander this season Simmons would be a solid choice.

I'm not sure NYK would be happy with him giving less than 100%, but maybe now that Thibs is gone they'll lighten up.

Phoenix makes a lot of sense because they're out of quality options but if you squint a bit you can sort of imagine Simmons regaining some of his earlier shine. It's the sort of thing you talk yourself into when there's no other choice.

You think so? Ben would FEAST in Boston. Would add a much needed backbone and slot right into their defensive schemes.

Ben deserves to be on a squad this season. He played better than expected with the Clippers. He defended well, made intelligent passes and did not create any waves. His offense sucks so he will have to live with a spot role where his defense or passing is needed, but there is plenty of teams that could use this resource. Of course we are talking about a vet min deal. He is definitely a low-risk medium-reward player at this price IMO.

It's not his hard nose that teams are worried about. It's his hard head that's a concern. That said, I'd love to see Ben figure things out. But just not gonna happen I'm afraid and teams don't believe it either. Plus and I say this all the time. Owners want their fans excited. Ben's become a hard sell even to fans desperate to believe.

There have been many NBA players who disliked basketball and had significantly less ability than Simmons but had longer careers because they were professional. Ben threw away tens of millions of dollars due to his lack of professionalism.

In retrospect that scouting report of his LSU days was spot-on.

Dont think a singles player that is worse than him was signed, so not surprising at all.
When you group together a lack of shooting, lack of availability, lack of confidence in one player, is better to look at the hard working guy that is not hurt most of the season and can deliver similar stat lines

I'm for signing him. Vet min, most of em are bums anyways. Try him out as a small ball 5. I mean, what's the down side? If he sucks, so does any of the other vet min guys you'd sign.

Imagine signing Draymond Green, but he’s soft, timid, disengaged, and doesn’t like basketball.

Spurs. There is one coach who ever understood him...Brett Brown. Brett was the first coach to unlock his potential
