It's been quite evident the last decade imo: giving your superstar power to influence management decisions has been proven fatal.

- Durant, Kyrie and Harden collapsing in Brooklyn and demanding Steve Nash. Probably the biggest failure in NBA history.
- LeBron wanting Westbrook and then getting rid of him. Lakers paid twice for that.
- Giannis was kinda vocal asking for changes, Dame Lillard in particular and generally putting pressure since their ring. It only got worse and worse.
- Kawhi's demand of Paul George submitted Clippers management into a heavily lopsided trade and they lost a future HoF in SGA.
- KD's got to be the worst at this: I believe he also pushed for the Suns to trade for Beal, which proved to be a terrible move.

I'm sure there are a few more examples.

On the contrary, while carrying influence, more patient stars such as Dirk, Duncan, Curry or Jokic let management do their work and benefitted by staying in one franchise and winning rings eventually.

The player empowerment era is also probably slowing down because of this.

lebron wanted spoelstra removed. the organization @miami was of riley's construction not lebrons. miami was already a top5 defense

I thought LeBron orchestrated AD to the Lakers? You failed to give him credit for AD and the championship. AD was also flipped for Luka, so LeBron gets credit for that too.

LeGMs track record is impecible. His teams make the finals damn near 50% of the time.

You beat me to it. LeGM's teams make the finals nearly 50% of the time. That's absurd. Not only is he the GOAT on the court, but he's also an all time GM.

Yea I'm an MJ guy , but LeBron has been WAY better at being a GM. Not even close. Even when you ignore his awful runs with the wizards and hornets and for thread purposes and only go by as a player, his ideas were awful and he's lucky the Bulls didn't listen to him.

i dont hear any stories about lebron sitting at any table negotiating a player's contract with a team

it was the hope of a ring that motivated players to join lebron. to wit: beyond the covid fake ring the lakers have been shunned. its almost like players are avoiding lebrob

it pretty much all started with kawhi shunning lebron

Players usually are not great roster managers.

But players will always have levarage when UFA or in the end of their contracts.

Front office must tone down interference from the stars when they are in the middle of their contracts and should not have such power. Because the NBA should not allow players to refuse to play after asking for a trade.

In all the glazing Lawrence Frank gets from the NBA media, I'm surprised by how rarely the SGA trade is even brought up for how awful it turned out to be. Windhorst and Simmons still bring up the AD trade as somehow it was a massive overpay, even if the best outgoing asset in that trade was probably Josh Hart and the Lakers managed to win a championship, make a conference final and then turn Davis into Luka, while the Clippers lost George to podcasting and free agency.

Lebron has won championships with 3 different franchises as the man. Something you will likely ever see in your life time in any major sport. Terrible example.

I have to agree with the LeBron fans and influencers who claim he has been so successful at creating the superteams. Its probably the one skill he really was successful at - stacking the deck in his favor to the max, pick the right base (franchise and weak conference), recruit the right super talented beta mentality stars, convince the ownership and management to follow his advice and at the same time manipulating the media to create a narrative that he did everything on his own.

At the same time, ironically, those same posters denied that he had superteams for the past 15 years. Flip flopping at its finest.

I think LeBron has some highs and lows on his GM résumé.

But yes, no one can ever take away from him winning 3 titles with 3 different side kicks, 3 different head coaches, in 3 different cities.

This isn't MJ leaning on Phil and Pippen in Chicago over and over again.
