That problem was with Lance Stephenson, not with guaranteed contracts.

Guaranteed contracts suck for teams but they’re clearly here to stay. The union is never giving that one up

What makes you think he’s an outlier? We’ve seen many players dog it over the years once they get paid.

Much like how guarenteed contract aren't prohibited in the NFL guarenteed contracts aren't mandatory in the NBA

NBA teams simply hand them out like candy and that can change any times teams decide to

Yeah, and loads of guys who play to their contract or better. Lance Stephenson was just a dude who wanted to get paid. He had all kinds of attitude issues to begin with, we knew that during his career. He's not telling us anything we didn't need to know.

But it hasn't stopped lots of guys from being worth their deals. It's not an issue with guaranteed contracts, it's an issue with some players.

I never understood this mailing in after a big contract, I know some people play because they are all & have sheer size, but to make it to the pros just because of that, is so distasteful to me, as Rose said if you don't think your the best you shouldn't be playing,

Only solution is salary slotting. Works for rookie contracts. It can work for entire roster. Union stays happy. Players still get paid.

There are exactly a ton of players in the NBA with contracts that are only partially guaranteed.

The problem is the standard for superstars is that their max contract should be guaranteed and teams get destroyed when they give guys like Beal the max.

You have a better chance of winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning than of the NBAPA doing away with guaranteed contracts.

You never worked with someone who was mailing it in despite not having a contract? I mean..people be people man.

The sheer number of people I know..even solid 6 figure earners who got there and just checked out is wild.

Sports are just a job to most of these guys.

Never said a word about the NBAPA doing away with them. Completely irrelevant to my post

So I'll say it once again. There is NOTHING in the CBA that says NBA teams HAVE to hand out guarenteed contracts

This isnt a CBA issue. It's a teams keep handing them out to everyone issue

There's a difference between a regular job & making into the pros, all I'm saying is if you going to the pros just because of the money, it's not a good thing for the sport.

If we did not have guaranteed contracts, we would see players play for contracts. It would be just as bad, just in a different way.

It's not a good thing for dunder mifflin paper company either. That's all I'm saying man.

But it's so so so not uncommon for guys like myself to make 100-200-300k in regular jobs and only do about 4-8 hours of real work a week. Why would the NBA be any different? If you've got the natural talent to mail it in and keep a job...

What regular job makes 100k to 300k annually, & work only 4 to 8 hours a week?

The problem with not guaranteeing contracts would become very apparent if you hate load management and tanking. A lot of draft eligible college football players actually avoid playing in the big bowl games to avoid the injury risk. There would be a rash of players dogging it like crazy to avoid injury risk whenever their rough market value is established

I think 4-8 hours is an exaggeration, but studies have shown that a significant portion of the work week is not devoted to actual work.
