Who's Top 15 All Time?

Post#1 » by pipfan » Tue Jul 29, 2025 9:24 pm

I'm going to put MJ, LBJ, KAJ, Wilt, Russell, Duncan, Shaq, Magic, Bird, Hakeem, Kobe, Curry
Most lists I see have these 12 guys in the top 12 spots (maybe a few others, but this seems like close to a consensus for 12 guys who would be in almost all top 15 lists).
So, that leaves 3 spots-who do you got?

KG, Oscar, Jokic

I have Jokic over West at this point. 3 MVPs, finals MVP

Just having done the 13th greatest player of all time. Jokic cleared it comfortably. Followed directly by Jerry West and Oscar who were close to tied. So these poll results ATM match exactly that.

What I think would be fascinating to see is the 16th and the 10 best candidates whom I think would be in No order.

Dr. J
KD
KG
Karl Malone
Giannis
Charles Barkley
David Robinson
Moses Malone
D-Wade
(idk at PG, probably between CP3 and John Stockton.)

I think this would be probably the best agreed on list. Some old timers might say Elgin Baylor, George Mikan & Bob Pettit.

But because I'm more modern the I'd have Stockton over CP3 due to longevity. Those top 10 I first mentioned would be somewhere between 16-25. Questions, Comments?

Of the players you listed, I have:

KG #9
West #13
Oscar #15
Jokic #16
D-Rob #17
Dr. J #19
KD #21
Giannis #22
Moses #26

For me, your list is a good group of player to focus on. The other guys I have in this range: Mikan, Dirk, CP3, Kobe, Nash, K.Malone, Pippen, Barkley, Stockton, Harden, Wade

Today I'd give it to KG, Mikan and Dirk. They're close enough I change my mind from time to time. Coming up on Moses recently.

Jokic I fully expect to get there, but I'm pretty big on longevity.

KD the ultimate bus rider is not top 15.

Dirk is higher than KD

I'd put him lower. One dimensional scorer who doesn't impact the game much in other ways. Hasn't really been a top 5 player since 2014. Among his contemporaries, I'd have him behind LeBron, Jokic, Curry, CP3, Dirk, Giannis, Kawhi, Wade, and Kobe.

Jokic has 306 more NBA/BAA games than Mikan. Why would you have Mikan in but not Jokic? Would you not agree that Jokic is a much better player at peak?

A bunch of factors there in how we assess it differently

1) I count post WWII NBL seasons
2) Longevity is somewhat era relative (though Mikan still not particularly good)
3) The season is the primary unit of longevity measurement imo
4) I don't agree that Jokic was 'much' better at peak (though would put his peak over Mikan), Mikan may have spent a higher % of his career in prime.

Probably something else too.

I feel the same way about Garnett. Can you imagine putting a player in the top 10 who has one nba championship, zero final mvps, and one league mvp?

Did you ever watch Kevin Garnett in the playoffs? Did you watch the 2010 nba finals?

KG was never the same after his 2009 knee injury, not a good representation of what he was capable of.

West, Oscar, Jokic just feels right to me. KG, Dr. J, Moses, Dirk, KD right after them and each could make a strong case to be included.
