NYT: ESPN cuts ties with Shannon Sharpe

ESPN has cut ties with NFL Hall of Famer and media analyst Shannon Sharpe less than two weeks after he settled a lawsuit in which his ex-girlfriend accused him of rape, sources briefed on the decision told The Athletic on Wednesday.
Sharpe has not been on ESPN since late April, when the suit was first filed. Sharpe denied the allegations and said at the time that he would return to ESPN at the beginning of NFL training camp. ESPN declined to comment.

As long as they're good for ratings, and i think Michael Rapaport would make First Take a lot more popular.

He got extorted and now fired. He should have never capitulated to that chick and her lawyer. As a matter of fact, he should have never messed with her in the first place. These atheletes need to grow up.

So you want more bad TV? I mean I get it...they'll for sure get someone terrible cause they want cheap ratings. But can't we hope for more?

Marcus Morris and Gilbert Arenas were arrested. The former on fraud allegations made by the casinos he took around 250k from and the latter on allegations of setting up an illegal gambling scheme with some Israeli guy.

I was surprised he settled because there was no way espn was going to bring him back. Might as well fight to prove your innocence instead of caving into the extortion demand

I only like interesting personalities, and Skip Bayless is definitely interesting, and so is Michael Rapaport and Andrew Gaze.

ESPN gave SAS a big contract extension.
Maybe there was no more money for another personality or maybe his presence or absence didn't impact FT ratings too much either way.

Interesting. Guess gambling is the new pot with pot becoming legal.
