Availability is the best ability. At least they can count on him to be on the floor when it matters.

~$37.5m per season seems a bit steep with the current CBA but they are committed to this roster now and it’s good enough to get to the finals.

It was kinda expected already when they traded for him - not a good trade, and not a great deal, but they're in position to contend for place in the finals, so hard to complain knowing the recent history of Knicks.

Taking $150 mil instead of $156 isn't much of a discount. I guess the Knicks had little choice considering all the picks they dealt for him. His archetype is much in demand although his on court impact seemed a little underwhelming in the games I watched last season.

The Knicks should be over the 2nd apron after they fill out their roster (unless they deal Josh Hart for multiple much worse guys making less). Maybe they're going for it this season w/ the perceived weakness of the east & what they've assembled.
But if they suffer a lengthy injury to Brunson or a couple guys, they might slash at the deadline to get under the 2nd apron before the end of the season. Regardless, I think they'd only remain up there for 1. They're only getting more expensive subsequently w/ deals like these.

I mean, getting a $13 million-ish per year raise from his last deal, with then rising cap, isn’t this a pretty god deal? I mean, I know he wasn’t great defensively last year compared to his usual, it is their the outlier year? For a career 88-37-84 guy, if his defense comes back, isn’t this the ideal 3+D player? So to those saying he’s overpaid, with the cap raise, is that really the case? Not to mention you get the full 82 games out of him, most players your paying them for 68ish games I guessing, right?
I mean, the SG type players making the similar salary are Desmond Bane, Jalen Suggs, Kyrie, Tyrese Maxey, and LaMelo. Outside of Kyrie, I’d say Mikal is on the level of most of these guys at least if you believe his defense will come back.

Another steal by the Knicks and Leon Rose. He will get more familiarity with the team after last season. He gets paid well while also getting to be around his NOVA boys. Knicks get their flexibility to work around the 2nd apron. Bridges is an ironman that you know will provide a steady 18 ppg and solid defense.

Geez I kept trying to do the AAV math in my head and it kept going up. Solid player who is constantly available and plays hard but yikes....

He literally won the Celtics series with a few incredible defensive stops at the end of games. You didn't watch that playoff series or the highlights?

Looking at all the players making $35-40M, it’s not a bad deal for Mikal. The core is intact for the next few years.

And some people thought Quentin Grimes was being unreasonable wanting 25M per year

Not sure how people are like 'oooh that contract" when Anunoby got more and isn't any better. In any case, it's another overpay for a role player, but the Knicks have their #1 (Brunson) and #2 (KAT) in place, so overpaying for elite role players who fit is the correct decision, especially since the East is pretty weak and even more wide open now that the Celtics have dismantled their team and Tatum will miss most (if not all) of next season.
