I miss the era of low post big men doing work in the paint.

Then you should watch Denver. Or LAC. Or Indiana. Or Houston, or Milwaukee, or the Lakers. Or the Knicks. Vucevic in Chicago.

There are a pile of good low post players in the league, and I didn't even mention the guards or wings who are posting these days as well.

Might be worth remembering how much face-up that guys like Robinson, Ewing and Olajuwon did from well outside of the paint, too.

He was quite skillful. Lacked the athleticism/power to be really dominant, and he wasn't a particularly good passer. Couldn't draw fouls or finish at an elite rate and was a tepid FT shooter, so he just didn't have enough else going, leaving him floating around -1% rTS most of his scoring prime.

But the footwork? The touch on his hook shot? The various fakes? Dude was fantastic in those regards. We could do worse than watch highlights of him rooking people.

Al Harrington -> Al Jefferson -> Antawn Jamison

Harrington is a name I haven't heard in a while. Bleh scoring threat on low volume. Figured out the 3ball in his late 20s, which helped. Okay on D. Definitely worse on O than Jamison, who was also better than Jefferson. Neither could defend a whit, but Jamison was a much better scorer. Jefferson's big claim to fame was aesthetics and his hella low turnover rate, but in terms of offensive efficacy? Outside of 2012, he actually wasn't very impressive at all, and Jamison cleared the best we ever saw from Big Al multiple times.

I always thought Bosh was massively underrated as a mid or low-post player...dude has some of the best footwork of all-time for a big:

The Knicks had Harrington briefly and we called him No Sharrington and Free Candy alternately on our board.

Agreed - Jamison was actually a pretty nice player.

Aaaaand the video above has Bosh scoring on Harrington in a Knicks jersey. Fun times for nobody.

Al Jefferson is what happens when you create a Zach Randolph that has no interest in anything but cashing a check.

You should also watch more than highlights. Most possessions were sloppy and glacial, the cool little dispy-do's and step-throughs were the best parts not the norm. We all used to endlessly complain about how boring it was to watch post-up sets over and over again.

Wasn't a slam on Al Jefferson... he was talented... but... a full thread about a borderline All Star from the mid 00's...

There is also that. Watching 90s ball now after watching current ball is... illuminating. I've spent a bunch of time tracking games from the 80s and 90s, watching some games from MJ's various Finals and it's not really what the nostalgia wants us to believe at all, for sure. And for post stuff, not only was it objectively worse offense most of the time, especially later in the 90s, the lead-in to the 5-second rule definitely made us all want to rip out our hair, heh.

I'm not worried about criticism of Jefferson, but it's a highlight video. It doesn't matter the player. The highlights are fun to watch.

I remember when he was toying with other bigs in the 04 summer league. Likely at the same with Olympics in which Argentina kicking ass - good old times

Bosh was an excellent scorer in the regular season. Couldn't really handle a physical player, though. Jason Collins, for example. Rashard Lewis and Dwight.

But he had a great jab step, solid footwork, and a dirty jumper. Just fell apart in the playoffs, and like Big Al, not a particularly good passer, which limited his impact on the offense.
