San Antonio Spurs star De'Aaron Fox has agreed to a four-year, $229 million maximum contract extension with the franchise, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told ESPN. The deal secures Fox's future in San Antonio through the 2029-30 season.

Yikes. Kings dodged a bullet on that one. Fox just isn't the kind that impacts winning enough to justify that kind of coin

I like Fox but I’m not sure what he’s done to deserve this kind of extension.

This should surprise no one. He was always getting the Max. That was part of the handshake agreement with Rich Paul and Klutch when we traded for him. Just part of being a small market team unfortunately.

Spurs needed a legit #2 to pair with Wemby long term though and they got him. And throughout his prime years (27-32) too thankfully. Now he needs to improve his 3PT Shooting to really earn that money. And Spurs need to continue to internally develop the rest of our roster (Harper, Castle, Sochan, Vassell, Bryant, etc.) to support those two.

Fox is here to speed up the Wemby's Spurs timeline as the #2, from that perspective the Spurs had to max him.

So Josh Giddey is worth 30 million a year.

Just hope these moves don’t end with them trying to move Castle. He is a championship piece imo.

Next please trade Vassell and Keldon Johnson

Let's see what his second year looks like before going that far, yeah? Dude needs to learn how to shoot before we starting bringing the word "championship" back to San Antonio.

Pretty much the same dollars per year, just Fox's deal is 4 years vs Luka's 3 year deal. Luka's deal is setup so he can get a 35% max in 2 years

Also - a bit of a pet peeve of mine. These amounts they are quoting are not accurate. Assuming the cap only goes up 7% like the league predicts then this deal is actually 4 years $222.4M. $229M would be assuming a 10% cap increase next year

No. Bad to questionable contracts are never a good reason to hand out other bad to questionable contracts.

Hate it, but they made their decision by trading for him. If he doesn't have an all-star season this coming season (and throughout the deal), I see if you can move him ASAP. If you're being paid like this, that's my expectation.

I hate it… that much money to a guy who can’t shoot the three is too much. He isn’t an all nba level player and it isn’t like there were teams that could give him that type of contract.

This should clear up any confusion about whether the Spurs feel they can't make Fox/Castle/Harper work

Fox isn’t anywhere near Luka’s level though. That’s what makes this contract rough.
