Would he be a good mentor for Wemby to mold his game around?

KG is a good choice but he literally has Tim Duncan and D rob in his backyard.

His game is a lot more KG like in nature. But also...if he's got those guys all season. Why not get KG in the summer?

Yeah, I wish he trained with Giannis instead.

For his long term health at his size, probably better to play like KG than charging the lane the way Giannis does.

I don't see Wemby hitting the weights and getting Giannis results. So I don't see why he'd want to play like Giannis. He's a finesse player not a power player.

They're around for Wemby at any time.

I thought this was for a commercial but if Wemby's working with KG instead, all the better to get as broad a tutelage as he can.

He is tallest player in the league, he takes way too many jump shots.

I had the same thought.

I guess he can’t reach out to Hakeem or that would be the move. Still, I love that he’s seeking mentorship.

It takes a really mature player/person to reach out to learn at the highest level.
:o LeBron is 0-7 in game winning/tying FGs in the finals. And is 20/116 or 17% in game winning/tying FGs in the 4th/OT for his career. That's historically bad :o

Why does being tall mean he shouldn't take jumpers? He's not built to take contact. Being tall doesn't make you bigger or stronger. It just means you're taller.

I think Wemby's playing style is actually more similar to KG than the other two legends. Both guys with tall, slender frames and quick twitch athleticism. Plus he's already had the privilege of learning from them in his first two seasons in the league.

The fact that he is willingly seeking out KG to train him just adds another depth to how special Wemby is going to be, health permitted.

You train with Duncan and Hakeem to build a post game. Wemby doesn't have the build to play in the post. He's not going to one day develop glutes and shorter legs to get low on people...

The paint is the area where being taller grants you biggest advantage. I am amazed we have 7'5 super athlete and people are fine of making him jump shooter.

A post game would help him a lot. He doesn’t have to face defensive resistance (legit hand checking and pushing) like bigs used to. You don’t have to be especially built to be an effective post player now. How many giant centers are there defending and who is allowed to actually use their strength? I haven’t seen much of that at all.

Even skinnier perimeter players benefit from a post game, not just the Kawhi’s.

Wemby is also incredibly young so it’s a moot point- he will build the body and it makes sense to develop the skills now not when it’s too late.

It's great for lobs but he isn't built to attack the rim with power. He doesn't have that kind of body. Being tall makes him a great lob threat and makes guarding his jumper impossible. It doesn't mean he can build thick quads and a powerful upper body to over power guys.

OK you start out contradicting yourself. Despite having already proven around here that hand checking was never a big deal. If it were, then by not having it means Wemby has less, not more reason to post up. So either hand checking being gone matters and Wemby should use his natural face up game. Or it never mattered and so that's not relevant.

The NBA clearly doesn't call ANYTHING on post defenders today. So even weaker guys are allowed to man handle and hack guys in the post.

And yeah smaller guys can post up because they are BUILT for the post. To be well built for the post you need to have either a lot of strength to over power a much smaller guy. Or you need to be able to get lower than the guy you're posting up. Shaq had a taller torse than a lot of the guys he played against and he could get really low. Chuck dominated because he had a big old butt and was able to get under anyone.

Wemby is extremely high waisted. And his age has nothing to do with this. Just like KG...he isn't build to where he's going to be able to fill out. He doesn't have wide shoulders. He's a thin guy, not just muscles but in bone structure.

You're a Bulls fan. He's built more like a Brad Sellers. A 7'0 guy for the bulls in the 80's who played time at small forward. Obviously the comp stops there with these two. But the limitations of his frame and overall build doesn't change. You can't lift weights to fix your build.
