Giddey flourished with the Bulls once he became the primary ballhandler and some of the vets got out of the way. I don't see him wanting to go right back into a situation where he has to wait for his turn again. Kuminga might put up some nice counting stats on their roster, but he's not going to lead that team anywhere.
If Giddey's camp is hellbent on the 30M a year, Bulls should honestly just give it to him. They have no franchise player and only one bad contract on their team (Patrick Williams), someone needs to get that money. They're thinking too much.
And where it took them, with "flourishing Giddey and White" ?
To play in game, to lose by 19 by Heat, same Heat that will go on and get humiliated in playoffs.
Giddey is in same boat as younger versions of Fultz and Lonzo Ball. In theory, they can "run" rosters if you put enough shooters around them. But in reality much like Lonzo & Fultz, GIddey simply isn't good enough to build roster around. You can factor in Ben Simmons as well.
Giddey simply isn't that good of a player all together, all things considered.
He needs ball to be effective but in same time his pick&roll game is mixed bag because he isn't that good of a shooter off dribble ( or all together). He is painfully mediocre finisher around rim for a size, because he isn't that athletic nor has much burst.
Despite taking majority of shots around paint, he never showed ability to draw enough fouls. Final result is career 53,5% TS.
He can't attack paint like most other PGs can and that results in less defensive breakdowns. That forces GMs into taking very specific role players around him just to fit his game.
And unlike Ben or Lonzo... His defense... Man... He can't guard any position. Even in regular season. He is too slowfooted to defend guards. And too weak to defend wings. He is complete liability on that end all the time.
So why would Bulls, or any other team pay him $30M? What he did so far in his career to be worth it?
OKC won title by moving away from him, and during his "breakout " year with Bulls only won 39 games and missed playoffs. On East. Make no mistake about Bulls, they had 15-27 record vs winning teams. They just played Nets, Wizards, Hornets, 76ers and Raptors enough times to polish record.
vs Nets 2-1
vs Wizards 3-1
vs Hornets 3-1
vs 76ers 2-2
vs Raptors 4-0
That is 14-5 vs bottom of East, meaning they were 25-38 against rest of a league, including Western tankers.
I agree that Bulls don't have franchise player. But they also shouldn't do what Kings did and just added most painful mediocrities on high usage- low efficiency and be stuck for ages in No man's land.
At the end of a day, winning 35-45 games in NBA is road to nowhere. Winning 35-45 games with overpaid mediocrities is just being ran by complete morons.
Bulls probably should just tear roster down ( trade White, not sign Giddey and trade or cut Vuc) and start over.
