Sampson would definitely be a great player today imo, but i don't recall him having Wembanyamarms.

Sampson was a great player but he couldn't stay healthy- kind of a sad story

Wemby is already better now than Ralph ever was

I don't know about his predictions of 30 pts and 20 rebounds/game, but Sampson is one of my favorite players despite the knee injury that really turned his basketball career upside down. It's a bit silly of him to call Wembanyama out like this lol.

Sampson was unique at the time and yes, 7'4, but he did his own thing gracefully when healthy. Ralph didn't shoot 3s, so if our dear Wembanyama is really Wemby 2.0, the present one has modern upgraded firmware and shot mechanics.

These crotchety old devils are on one lately.

The 80s was run and gun, especially in the west, so I don't know what he's talking about unless he just means he'd shoot more 3s. Ralph would be great today, for sure. And maybe have a little more longevity. But guys saying this crap is such a bad look.

So far,
  • Shaq has claimed he'd average 50ppg in today's league.
  • Allen Iverson has claimed he'd score 43 ppg in today's league
  • Tmac said he'd average 40 ppg in today's league
  • Now Sampson claims he'd average 30 and 20
  • Multiple ex players have claimed Jordan would average 40-50 ppg
  • Keyon Martin claimed Kobe would average 75ppg.

Man, how unlucky are we that the NBA has fallen of such a cliff that old timers would get a 10-15 point scoring bump and double their rebounding numbers if they played today. With a decline this steep, give it a few more years and I can probably lace them up for a team too.

Sampson had notoriously short arms. He'd be 60% of the player Wemby is in today's league if that.

i think he could pull off a 30 20 game. he was a very good basketball player in his day, and his skillset translates.

Ralph Sampson body couldnt hold up in a slower paced 80s his body definitely wouldn't hold up in today's game. Wemb's 8ft wingspan overall skillset and athleticism puts him in a totally different tier as a player from ralph who was a good prospect at that time.

There's a story of Bill Russell comparing his standing reach with Ralph Samson and it was higher

As Demi Lovato would say, “What’s wrong with being confident?”

I don’t think he would average 30 and 20, but I can’t knock a NBA player for having confidence. Sadly, he would probably get injured if he played today also.

He was more athletic than Wemby but he wasn't really 7-4. He was about the same height as Kareem.

Compared to the other major sports why does it seem like the NBA has the most vocal of the ex-players(and even fans) who are so dismissive of the current eras and vice versa? Again I make the comparison with hip-hop and the NBA culture all the time. Both things are way too tied to youth culture. Older rappers and fans loudly can't stand younger rappers/fans and younger rappers and fans dismiss older rap just as loudly. It's nowhere near as venomous with other genres fans either.

These old school dudes are just embarrassing. They had limited skillsets, and if they were plopped into today's game, they'd hardly see playing time.
