What's Utah's plan with Markkanen?
Watching Lauri dominating (again) in the EuroBasket, i can't understand why a player of this caliber is still playing for a team that doesn't seem to have a plan.
I don't see how Ainge plans to compete. I don't see any possible way that Utah will even be competitive.
So, why Ainge hasn't traded Markkanen yet?
If he does trade him the return will be great.
It will help them rebuild faster with picks.
It frustrates me to watch how a talented guy like this never made the playoffs.

I'll be surprised if he makes it past the season with Utah. Ainge is going to wamt draft capital for him, the question is in the new cba era what will he actually get for him? Will he be happy with 3 picks or is he going to hold out for 5?

The plan is likely to see if he can recoup some value in 15-20 games then trade him, and if he can't, just to keep him and sit him for the last two months of the year.

Ainge’s plan is find a desperate GM and destroy that franchise but those days may be over.

Plan was to sell him a t peak value... which has passed. Ainge once again held onto a player too long.

Danny is no longer the decision maker, it is his son Austin. That is why we finally moved on from players that needed to be off the roster instead of holding on to them in hope of some unlikely windfall. If they determine moving him is the best option they will look for the best offer they can get. I am sure there is a minimum package they'd accept, but we certainly won't hear that they turned down multiple picks from the Kings again (I am so upset by that lol).

You can’t tell me Markkannen/Adersn for PG/Edgecombe/Picks doesn’t make too much sense.

How many picks would that be? Two for Lauri and another two for taking on PG's contract? Or maybe Edgecombe plus one pick for Lauri is enough.
For a team as bad as Utah it would make some sense to take on PG and get additional assets though. They'll be bad either way for the next two years, after that they could buy out PG maybe and start with some good young players, picks and a clean slate.

One last crazy Danny vs insanely stupid front office (Kings) trade for the ages would have been sweet

I would hate to do that to the Kings fans, they deserve better after all of this lol

I don't know that this is the plan.

Hachimura and Knecht for Lauri. No need to attach a first.

How likely is a potential Spurs move? Markkanen/Wemby frontcourt has the potential to be dominant af. Dylan Harper at the point, ufff

6ers have a sexy future Clippers 1st. And I think 2x other 1sts they can trade.
Jazz can tell PG to stay home all of 25/26 season. Tank!
Then see what happens. Either a real attractive buyout or trade a PG who proves healthy again 26/27 season.

They will keep him on the books and eventually he will lead the Jazz to a championship in 2056 as head coach

Re: What's Utah's plan with Markkanen?
Their goal is non-embarrassment, which is a goal that usually ends in disaster. They don’t want to admit that the contract they gave him made him from being worth three picks to being worth 1-2 picks and a lot of patience.
They’re so late to cutting their losses that they’re bleeding value at this point. The time it takes for him to improve his production is negated by the fact that his contract is getting shorter - so it was never possible to have this asset secured for years.
I’m very ok with tanking but some instances like this one where the franchise is incompetent and the player has quietly been patient is disgusting. This dude is trapped and yes he’s getting paid but there are teams who can pay him and offer a professional situation. Too much. I would not blame him at all if his agent got dirty with them in the media. There’s a reasonable line when it comes to players honoring a contract. No one signs thinking they’ll feel just as committed to a franchise that’s clumsy at tanking and have 0 potential franchise players to show from their tanking efforts.
