The NBA might have better players on the court but the games will NEVER have the atmosphere some of these fanatic euro clubs have.

If they are willing to drop the ticket prices by about 80%, I'm sure this has a chance, LOL.

I think it's a stamina issue lol 41 regular season games, a couple preseason games, then the post season, that's tough lol vs like what 19 home games for the Euroleague? Plus arena size plays a part, 40% of the arenas in Euroleague have a capacity of 10,000 or less people.

It's not even comparable.

I don't know ANYTHING about the economics of europe but...I'm guessing they don't have nearly as many tickets going to corporations that then hand them out to clients, employees, and so on. You just don't get excited fans that way. You do get more money. And as we've clearly seen...the US model makes vastly more money.

The other part is that many of the top European clubs (Real Madrid, Barcelona, Panathinaikos, Olympiakos, Fenerbahce, Bayern, Belgrad clubs, ...) are not pure basketball clubs, but first and foremost football/soccer clubs. The most fanatic fans of the football team support the other teams in the club as well (like a volleyball match between Olympiakos and Panathinaikos is high security zone), so they bring they traditional European football atmosphere to basketball as well.

It just doesn't work that way (in both directions). You can't just say American basketball arenas should be as loud/fanatic as European arenas (Wemby) and on the other hand you can't just get Liverpool or Manchester fans to a basketball arena just because Adam Silver sees money in it.

Very different cultures, very different traditions. It's not like one is good and one is bad, it's just different.

Another difference where it's the other way around is the huge significance of high school and college sports in the US. There's nothing comparable in Europe. When I first read that the biggest American stadiums are college football stadiums I thought it was a joke. But huge respect for that culture.

Professional sports in Europe is probably more comparable to college sports in the US when it comes to fan base.

Certainly sounds that way. The "student sections" are kinda what wemby is asking for. I went to the university of kentucky and my biggest regret is I never saw a UK game in the student section. The thing is...to get those tickets you had to camp out over night. It's another level. Now I went to football games and of course I've been to UK basketball games, a lot of times. Just never in that wild student section.

Pro sports in the US are just so much more a family event and so much more "professional" in nature.

I have friends from Australia that come over to the US every year for about a month and they always catch UK football games. The even rock UK gear back in Australia. And that's just through them coming here (for the bourbon) and becoming fans through the culture. You just don't get that with pro sports.

Its never gonna happen outside of the example of the Clippers Wall. A small section of fans behind the basket that have to scream all game
In the US, going to sport events is a family/date thing, in europe arenas are always filled with die hard fans that live and breathe their club for life.
As a european that lived and went to games in the US and Serbia, I prefer the US way. You pay you go in watch and leave as opposed to screaming all game and possibly fighting with the other teams fans during or after the game

Impossible to bring that to USA, it's a cultural thing.

NBA fans only cheer when there is free food on the line.

The closest NBA Fans got was Warrior Fans in Oakland, but then they moved to San Fran and jacked up the prices. American Pro Sports has too much of a corporate culture now to do anything close to that. Its debatable on thats how it should be, or not. Flares and Fireworks indoors is a little too much for me though. Its like hazardously watching the game at Snoop Doggs house.

It's a money thing. If NBA switches their target customer demographics from ''all ages'' to ''15-40 year old males'' atmosphere will be similar. Of course they'll make much less money.

College football atmospheres tend to be quite rowdy as audiences are mostly 18-22 year old drunks.

Pretty sure all the Spurs need to do is start winning. He'll never truly get Euro energy, but if the Spurs fans had a team worth cheering that hard for, it'd sound better. You need to be successful with a good team for American's to give a crap. Ticket prices also need to go down to get a better demographic in the seats, but we can't control the money machine.

I mean, MSG sounds a whole lot better now vs a few years ago. Even an arena that widely popular wasn't that loud or enthusiastic until NYK started making the playoffs again.

Yes the fans were loud. But some negatives

1. Fans throwing toilet paper on the court is lame, not something to be applauded (especially at tip off - wtf )
2. Did I see fire in the crowd? Good luck
3. The cleanup between timeouts/intermissions would be hell


With that said, I love the passion and the flags in the crowd. It should be a good addition with some tweaks and enhanced security.
