How about they make room for a competition to find out who’s the best golfer? Maybe weightlifting, let’s see who’s strongest etc. Make an afternoon of it before the game and I bet it would outdraw the game itself.

A naked greco Roman wrestling competition where every contestant brings their own lubrication oils would be epic. Tim Hardaway senior can referee. My money is on Cason Williams.

Just play the All-Star game on assfault. How many times do we have to suggest it before Silver finally implements it?

There's no fixing the game. The real reason the All-Star Game was better back when you were 10 years-old was that you were 10 years-old.

Basketball All-Star game to watch basketball players compete in other sports lol

It's not just that, the All-Star game was better in the past than what it became later on even regardless of age
What needs to be addressed is how to make All-Star weekend mildly entertaining. Certainly last year's commercial galore was attrocious for example.

A similar thing has already been done with the 2009-10 television series "Shaq Vs.", and it didn't last long, so i guess its not a popular concept.
I don't care how good or bad an NBA player is at other sports...

dude, just watch pre-2002 and you will see that, while they are not playing super hard, they are playing a decent game. That's all we ask.
No 10 year old from today is going to remember these games as anything but a joke.

IMO It has to do with TV availability. Back in the olden days, if you weren't on the Lakers or Celtics the All-Star game might be the most exposure you'd get to casual fans. So if you played with no effort it would really hurt your reputation. As cable TV expanded and everybody got more exposure the importance of trying in the All-Star game went away. Standards for how herd to play in the ASG didn't immediately collapse but began a fade until effectively no effort is given now.
There isn't a real fix. Notice there isn't a Pro-Bowl anymore and the NHL doesn't play a real ASG. I like the plan of moving the Ist final 4 to ASG in place of the game.

The only winning move is to skip it.
Even better All-Star weekend idea

Just forget that the ASG may have appealed to you at one point, and then just stop tuning in and take a breathe since it's meaningless.

Whatever the case may be, the games were semi serious back then, unlike now. The only fix would be for them to magically start playing proper basketball again, which will never happen, so I agree that they should get rid of it. It's an event that is not made for current times.

Stop the mid season all star break altogether. Use those days to spread out games/lessen back to back of current regular season games.
What should take place is an all star weekend before the NBA finals. All players except the two teams in championship are eligible.
+All star invite earned becomes a full season award vs half season award.
I think a format that would motivate players is an old vs young format. To save ageism face, make it a 8 year NBA experience and under vs 9 year and over. Each team gets a special +1 invite. Young team a college player entering NBA (Flagg for example). And old team gets one player in retirement (imagine Shaq or Jordan coming back).

Yeah, back before YouTube and full network coverage you could never see all your favorite players, or even guys you read about but weren’t given a chance to see, in one spot.

I'm still a fan of the 1v1 tourney. First to 11 or 21, streetball rooools (1's and 2's, call your own fouls).
I know players dont want to be the social media punching bag if they lose 1v1, but it would be fun for fans and generate loads more interest. The players can get over their ego; fans will love it. 8 or 16 player bracket.
