Both Jason Kidd and Lonzo Ball were considered bad shooters, but both of them improved, both in 3-point and ft%. Meanwhile, Rondo saw very little improvement

Edit:
After responses here, I will take it back

Jason Kidd first 5 season vs 5 last season
3.8 attempts on 32%
4.5 attempts on 38%

Rajón Rondo first 5 season vs 5 last season
0.6 attempts on 24%
2.4 attempts on 35%

Rajon Rondo was known for long arms, so probably more could go wrong because of how long everything was.
I'm sure many long armed folks can overcome it, but I'm guessing more long-armed ballers will struggle with shooting than short armers will.

He actually did after he left the Celtics. Even though it was on lower volume, he shot a respectable percentage from 3. It just wasn't as drastic as Kidd & Lonzo were. The free throws were a different story obviously.

Not enough mileage for Lonzo to compare, but please, answer 2 questions about Kidd vs Rondo:
1. In the below chart (using RS data from basketball-reference.com data), which line represents a player who improved and which line represents a player that "saw very little improvement"?
2. Which one of them is Kidd and which one is Rondo?

The Y axis is is 3FG%, of course.

Some people just lack talent at certain things, and training won't help if you lack that. It is not hard to understand, I will never shoot like Curry or Dairis Bertans even, no matter how much I train, thats just who I am.

I am not sure it is big arms and hands thing. Back in the day it was excuse, but I think it was born from Shaq and it wasn't substantial, I have known many guys with huge hands who were good shooters, I never really saw the correlation. I myself always thought it should be opposite, should be easier to aim smaller ball in your hand, at least it always was to me.

Kidd got better when he could do nothing but shoot 3s from the corners. And he was competent to good from the line starting in his 4th season, not an incompetent waste like Rondo.

Most guys are what they are within certain parameters as shooters, and improve contextually and by seasonal variance more than anything else. There are ways to help a guy who is a weak shooter, and it's mostly C+S with limited defensive coverage, tons of passing support, kind of thing. And that didn't work for Rondo because he just flatly wasn't ever a competent shooter.

He was nailing corner 3's on the Lakers with LeBron. He did improve. Just not on enough volume.

He was built like a 6-foot version of Kawhi. Imagine if he had developed a similar outside shot. Probably would've resembled something akin to Chris Paul with more length.

He certainly did improve. Over his last 7 seasons he was a 36% 3pt shooter on 2.3 attempts per game. This, compared to his first 9 seasons where he shot 26% on .8 attempts. Pretty stark contrast.

Now, he didn’t become a knockdown shooter, but he was certainly hitting them with regularity later in his career.

His form was always pretty bad...his elbow was wonky, so he was inconsistent.

Long arms makes for wonky elbows, Pippen has an ugly shot too...
Not that "ugly" is a bad thing... Kevin Duckworth and Shawn Marion had the most entertaining shooting motions of their times.

Not specific to Rondo but I think some people don't have the right like physical form. For me, I know how to shoot correctly but have to think about it, if I don't actively correct I will do things that are incorrect and result in a low %.

Rondo shot >40% from 3pt in the bubble playoffs.

Playoff Rondo was real all along

His 3pt shooting generally trended upward for most of his career.

Why shoot them when he was always playing next to a better shooter?

Because shooting is for pussies.

Apparently, Rondo was an elite HORSE player.

A lot of NBA players get nervous during games or are intimidated by crowds, so Rondo may be an elite shooter.
