Brunson for Giannis

Post#1 » by pushfloater » Fri Oct 10, 2025 1:07 pm

I see they made Brunson untouchable in an article, but is that actually the right move? I feel like they would become extremely elite defensively with a trio of Giannis, Bridges, and OG. Throw in KAT and Clarkson… what lineup in the east would be better? Would you trade Brunson for Giannis?

The Knicks can not trade Brunson straight up for Giannis because the Knicks can not take any more salary since they are almost a second apron team (hard capped). Giannis earns 54M whille Brunson makes 35M.

The Knicks would have to include Josh Hart to make the trade legal.

Giannis wouldn't want to go to the Knicks if Brunson is not on the team.

Giannis, if he were to come, would do so because he wants to play with Brunson--who instantly becomes the best pg (and arguably the best guard) Giannis has played with in the NBA. Ideally, we'd also keep at least two of OG, Hart, KAT, and Bridges.

I personally don't see a trade unless (very unlikely) Giannis were to 1) demand a trade, and 2) specify that he'd only go to the Knicks. If this were to happen, though, I think the Knicks would offer KAT and one of Bridges/Hart (plus somebody off our bench and whatever frps we have left). In a vacuum, yes, this would be a low ball offer, but the Knicks would have some leverage here.

Have you asked Giannis if he wants to play in NY without Brunson?
The answer is a big fat no.

As a Knicks fan would rather rock with the current team than hypothetically trade Brunson for Giannis. I and this fanbase KNOW how hard it was just to get a starting level PG. Im not going back to the dark ages.

Giannis has a bunch more value. It would need to be Brunson and stuff. But yeah as others have pointed out the idea would be to pair the two.
So does a package of OG, Bridges or KAT and whatever picks the Knicks have interest the Bucks? Idk.

Do I think Brunson is physically better than Giannis? No.

But Brunson has "it" and is the driving force and engine for that team.

As constructed, I believe the Knicks have a better shot with Brunson at point versus making it work with Giannis.

So if we aren't considering contracts, the apron, etc. when answering this question, I keep Brunson.

Depends, would you prefer a player, or a much much better player?

Giannis won a championship and scored 50 in the championship-winning game!
What do you mean Brunson has "it"?
What is it?
Giannis can win a ring with spot-up shooters and great defense, he doesn't even need a star ball-handler...
And Giannis beat the Suns in the 2021 Finals despite Booker 28.2ppg .455fg, and Chris Paul 21.8ppg .550fg!

My first thought as well, but if that's what Giannis is thinking, then I don't think he's learned anything from his inability to synergize with Dame. It doesn't make a lot of sense to go from Dame and then choose to play with someone more ball-dominant and worse at outside shooting.

Giannis beats Brunson in every stat category, more or less, and plays both sides of the floor. I can never picture Jalen Brunson leading a team to a championship, honestly. He is good, but I would trade him without a doubt.

Towns
Giannis
OG
Bridges
McBride

I will take it. Hart is sent with Brunson to make salary work.

I agree Giannis-Towns is the perfect twin towers offensively.
And defensively its pretty good too, considering Gobert-Towns was excellent.

Accidentally voted no because I wasn't sure of the perspective. But if it's the Knicks, they buy Brunson the plane tickets, pack his bags and drive him to the airport for the earliest flight available to Milwaukee.

Getting Giannis for Brunson is a no brainer.
