Do you think Dyson Daniels, Christian Braun, Jalen Duren and Shannon Sharpe will Sign an Rookie Extension Next Week?

Post#1 » by Hitman88 » Sat Oct 18, 2025 11:53 am

For players who are entering the fourth and final year of their rookie scale contracts, the first day of the new league year (July 1) is the first day they can agree to rookie scale extensions. Those players, who were all 2022 first-round selections, will have until the day before the 2025/26 regular season starts to finalize long-term agreements with their current teams.

Players eligible for rookie scale extensions can sign new deals that run for up to five years, with those contracts taking effect beginning in 2026/27. If they don’t sign extensions during the coming offseason, those players will be eligible for restricted free agency in the summer of 2026.

Rookie scale contract extensions:
Paolo Banchero (Magic): Five years Max $239,934,400.
Jalen Williams (Thunder): Five years Max $239,934,400.
Chet Holmgren (Thunder): Five years Max $239,934,400.
Keegan Murray (Kings): Five years, $140,000,000
Jabari Smith Jr. (Rockets): Five years, $122,000,000
Nikola Jovic (Heat): Four years, $62,400,000

Last Year Signed Extensions for Reference:
Scottie Barnes: Five years Max, $224,238,150
Cade Cunningham: Five years Max, $224,238,150
Evan Mobley: Five years Max, $224,238,150
Franz Wagner: Five years Max, $224,238,150
Alperen Sengun: Five years, $185,000,000
Jalen Suggs: Five years, $150,500,000
Jalen Johnson: Five years, $150,000,000
Trey Murphy: Four years, $112,000,000
Jalen Green: Three years, $105,333,333
Corey Kispert: Four years, $54,050,000
Moses Moody: Three years, $37,500,000

Do you think all these four(Daniels, Duren, Braun and Sharpe) deserve more than what Jalen Suggs and Jalen Johnson got last year which is $150M?
Btw, Keegan Murray just signed $140M

DD is the most valuable of all players mentioned and I think it will be a no brainer for The Hawks owners to give him the max extension (although i have been told they have been notorious penny pinchers in the past)

Kings probably skewed the market a bit with that Murray overpay, some of these guys aren't going to be handed such generous offers. Teams aren't willing to overpay anymore, especially teams like Denver with Braun where he's the 4th option.

The teams are in complete control due to RFA, so I imagine some of these guys will sign for whatever they're offered. But if a player really feels undervalued, they can play the waiting game. Players like Dyson are so valuable that not giving them a proper extension is stupid. You don't want guys like him betting on himself. He can decline the offer, and then once the RFA war of attrition ends, sign a qualifying offer next summer to enter UFA in 2 seasons.

The Duren extension becomes more interesting given the Ivey injury to start the season. I hope we can lock him up on a deal that makes sense, but I'm worried about what happens if we overpay and then Ivey comes back looking like a star. I don't think paying Ivey and Duren is in the cards with Ausar Thompson on our team.

Max is 240M. If Atlanta is agreeable the deal has already been completed months ago.
I do think DD is negotiate for 200M

I feel like the restricted FAs this summer may have reset this market and might make teams consider waiting for RFA. It seems like some of these players will have a hard time getting more than Giddey got at $25M a year.

I don't know much about Duren, so I didn't vote for him. But the other 3, sure.

Duren is a tough kid to value, and I agree that Ivey's latest injury makes it even more complicated.

I'm really only interested in a Duren early extension if DET is getting a significant discount because Duren just hasn't shown what I really look for in a starting C -- the ability to anchor a D. If Duren doesn't sign a team-friendly extension, I'd just let it ride until RFA.

Reports are his agent asked for the Suggs contract which is 5-150. The Hawks feel that's a bit too high atp and likely let it to rfa. I think the Jabari contract is fair offer before the deadline.

Daniels is probably looking for Suggs contract.
Duren probably looking for Claxton money.
Sharpe is a difficult case but I think he is probably looking for 30 a year at minimum too.
Braun might be the most expensive @ maybe 5/180 or so.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

I guess he is being devalued by the assumption that he is propped up by Jokic or something but 25 per a year is too low for him in my opinion. He should be in the range of 35 per in my opinion.

Is he really more valueable?

If he averages less than 3spg his value will be perceived as less. His offense is not superior to the other players mentioned. He is expected to receive $30m per year.

Effort is everything with his steals average. Is he going to consistently average 3 steals per game every season?

He's a good 3&D player, not elite, 25 is his high range, I think he'll be negotiated down to 20/yr.

I don't think there's much interesting about it. Duren has a great deal to prove defensively before he'll be worth committing to. As of the end of last season, he's still a major defensive liability. Even leaving aside the extreme difficulty of contending even with a bad defensive center who's vastly better on offense than Duren will ever be, traditional bigs who can't play plus defense provide poor value and are not worth paying. No front office in its right mind would hitch its wagon to him at a significant salary right now.

I feel like a lot of Pistons fans are also forgetting that his standing sample size of playing with a professional level of effort is about 65 games, after a considerably longer stretch of phoning it in on one or both ends.

Stein has reported that his agent was asking for in excess of $30 million, which is genuinely funny.

Another good question here is: what do you think each player is worth and what do you think they eventually get.

sadly our toronto team overpaid scottie barnes and IQ, so we quite screw with that regards

The poll needs a none of the above option. That's my vote.

I would let all go to RFA. Especially, Shaedon Sharpe. These early extensions are only helping agents.

After his lawsuit settlement, Shannon Sharpe could use a nice extension.
