Potential PG targets for Houston

Post#1 » by peZt » Wed Oct 22, 2025 10:22 am

From the game against the Thunder it was apparent that the Rockets lack a proper PG and half court creation. Yet, they still almost won against the champions. They are one PG away from being a title favorit imo. Which is why its an incredible shame that FVV got injured...

But anyways, you can't change it now, so Rockets gotta look forward. Do they wait for FVV to come back and hope for the best this season or do they go all in and trade for a PG. If so, who are realistic options for the Rockets? What would it take to get such a PG? Would a package of Reed, Capela/Adams, Draft Picks be enough to grab a veteran PG that could help them?

Get Dinwiddie for free and just tell him to handle the playmaking without jacking shots.

Dinwiddie sucks and is washed. He would not help the Rockets.

They can't, they're hard capped.

Rockets cannot sign a prorated vet min until January 8th.

If it were me, i am trying to find the most experienced guy who still has two-way eligibility. Since two-way players do not count against the cap, perfect built in loophole.

There aren't many good point guards in the NBA who are

a) available
b) not injured
c) not washed
d) veterans (not young and inexperienced)

I don't know, T.J. McConnell? Schröder (he's used to being traded)?

They need anyone. Point Amen does not work and Reed is just lol

Just let Amen Thompson do it. The experience will do him good. He'll get better and better, so give him a few months at least, or a whole season.
Why assess them after ONE game anyway?

Heck even if you do assess them now, there's no indication OKC would beat Houston in a 7 game series with Amen Thompson at Point Guard...

Rockets only lost by ONE point, and KD missed a free-throw at the end of regulation, and fouled SGA at the end of overtime2, so Amen Thompson wasn't the reason for this loss.

Amen Thompson is an athletic freak of nature, so letting him play Point Guard for a whole season is the perfect situation, as he'll develop skills to match his athleticism.

They are stuck until January. Might not be a bad thing though forcing Amen to step up. Their main issue right now is developing a playlist and integrating Durant.

He's not a great playmaker and the Rockets half court offensive rating was 85. It's just not going to work long term.

He's not a PG

The only solid options I see are Nembhard and TJ McConnell.

And I only see that happening if the Pacers give up on this season without Haliburton.

Another option could be Derrick White, if Boston gets off to a bad start with injuries and gives up on the season

Amen at PG hurts his game and the team ultimately. He’s at his best playing instinctually. Sheppard struggled on defense.

To answer your question I would say Kendrick Nunn of Panathanaikos.

Jrue holiday on this rockets team would have been a dream. Next best option on the market is Derrick white.

Is a 85 half court rating really bad in the context they were playing the Thunder, an elite defensive team? I mean, offenses struggling against good defenses isn’t that ridiculous. Especially really good defenses. In that’s context, is an 85 that bad?

White would make things very interesting in Houston

How do you jump to the conclusion that they are title favourites after 1 game with a pg?

Collectively, they've barely taken any playoffs lumps.

Rockets won't have the contracts to* match without gutting what little depth they have.

Maybe so but Reed definitely isn't up to the task. They need to do something, another season of Durant flailing is going to be hard to watch.
