Strange MJ Quote Last Night

Anyone else find it strange when MJ said "not financially, i'm ok" in response to Tirico asking why he's doing the NBC interview stuff? Like I don't think anyone thought it was a pure financial move. But there are dark corners of the internet where people swear MJ is actually "struggling" financially. I couldn't imagine how this could be true with how much asset value he owns and how much revenue he still brings in. Yet, his quote was an unsolicited protest that stood out to me.

Anyone else?

I haven't seen the show, but it sounds like he just says that he took this job, cause he wants to be there on tv and talk basketball, and not cause of the money. Didn't he recently sold an NBA team, I don't know how inept you need to be to not be stuffed for life after that.

Was overall strange and awkward.

Side note, are we ever going to hear from Kevin Harland again? Is he done because he was TNT?

Unless he has gambling debts in the billions its not even possible. He sold for hornets for 3 billion.

He's a billionaire several times over and I don't think a few million or whatever NBC is realistically paying him is going to move the needle much for him.

The point is just that he's there because he wants to be. I'm sure he's had tons of offers for millions of dollars over the last 20 years to speak or move into a TV role.

The guy is a degenerate gambler. It's not out of the realm of possibility that he took a cake job to feed his addiction.

Is it really that strange for a Billionaire to say “I’m not doing this job for the money.”

He's doing it for the money. He's worth billions so he's obviously not struggling, but if NBC is throwing 8 figures a year at him to sit at home and talk to Mike Tirico once in a while, he's not going to say no.

i gave the part of the quote that seemed odd. most likely just an inelegant phrasing, but it struck me because there have been strange conspiracy rumblings about his financial situation.

yeah like I said, I can't imagine how it could be true. maybe he didn't truly own as much as we thought. wrote it off as conspiracy theory. but his response seemed strange. who thought MJ wasn't ok? why'd he say, "i'm ok"?

Pre taped with very controlled questions. It was cool to hear from him. But the segment was actually strange to watch. It was truly pointless.

But yes if he's getting eight figures to talk and if he gambling all that money away he'll still be a billionaire soooooo...... Not necessarily for the money. Probably more for notoriety as he is no longer a governor in the NBA and is able to be a little bit more public

If he is getting paid so he can hit up the casino every night and gamble that money away, so be it. He might be a degenerate gambler but as long as it's not hurting anybody, it's a net positive for society. He's putting money back into the economy unlike those other billionaires who just horde and horde.

Whole interview was odd.

I don't know what they did to the recording but it almost looked animated or AI generated.

MJ was making light of the fact he's filthy rich, by saying he is "ok" financially.
Because if he said "I'm the richest basketball player of all-time" it would sound arrogant.
He was just emphasizing that he's doing it for basketball, instead of doing it for himself.

Do we know for sure he's getting 8 figures to only do pre-taped segments from his house?

Why not do it live, unless he's worried about saying something that's considered stupid by people/fans? Are fans going to consider him must see at halftime if he's not even going to do it live?
