Silver needs to clean up the sport

His laseiz faire players commissioner and refusal to come down hard on anything has brought the league to this point.
He needs to come down hard on these players. Give Balmer and the Clippers the death penalty and restore some credibility to the NBA.

He needs to cut the NBA's ties with betting companies and he won't do that.

Silver made this. He only cares about the money, thats why commercial breaks are longest its ever been in the NBA and anyone can sponsor the league, aka betting agencies. When he speaks about NBA Europe, he does not even speak about fan experience at all, he just talks about financial opportunities. As European Basketball fan I am grossed out and hope his new project fails in spectacular fashion.

He could start by removing himself from the NBA. He was the one who brought all this betting s**t to the league.
I don't know if there's a proverb like this in the US, but we have a saying that goes like "Assign the frogs to drain the pond". Letting Silver deal with the mess he created is like assigning the frogs to drain the pond.

Not a good look for the NBA, if multiple people are implicated here and convictions are handed down. In fact, he might be asked to step down, because rightly or wrongly, a betting scandal goes on your record as the commish.

Best he can do is a DraftKings logo on all NBA jerseys

If it wasn't him, it would be another commissioner. All the owners want in on the gambling money.

I kinda wanted to play devils advocate and say every super rich sports league is now sponsored by this garbage, but it is not really true. Tons of these leagues seem to be sponsored by Saudi Air lines all the time, and I just went to Premier league page to see who sponsors them, just being curious, and if I am not mistaken, they do not have single gambling sponsor.

I don't care who cleans up the sport. Making the Silver the fall guy then waiting for it to be backpage news would just be a continuation of the current NBA strategy in my book.
Take for example Dennis and the Clippers everyone knew Dennis was breaking the rules eons ago even if the specifics regarding the clippers weren't known. As soon as the league became aware they should have shut that **** down with a massive fine and punishment for Kawhi.
Instead they did nothing the problem festered and they found a team willing to say yes and it's only a story now because of Pablo. This stuff with betting, the lottery, Kawhi all stems from the fact the NBA has been unwilling to clean up it's own **** and instead just wants to sweep it into a corner until it's no longer a story. I am not naive how much is this Silver and how much is this the owners what really is needed is for the OWNERS to decide to address these problems proactively instead of trying to manage the news when one of these scandals breaks.

I don't disagree. But... we're more likely to have a fall guy than a wholesale cleaning. We've got Tim "The Lone Wolf" Donaghy, David "I know where the bodies are buried" Stern and "corrupt" Billy Hunter in the recent past to see that this league is going to do everything it can to hide its impropriety.
Terrible way to start the new season.

Legalized betting being endorsed by the league is the single most stupid thing the league has ever doneā¦and this is the same league that harbored a corrupt ref.

As a guy who had a gambling problem as a youth seeing not just the NBA but also other sports (NFL namely) promoting gambling, something that ruins many lives and is a real addiction for the sake of the almighty buck, makes me sick. I've said this on other message boards and the same applies to other sports, I love the game but hate the leagues and the way they're run.

The greed is out of control. I will continue to openly steal the product, and I do not care.

Nearly every sport is doing sports betting not just the NBA lol. This is not something he created.

What's the legality like over there on these things? This is all almost mind blowing here in the states as for so long gambling had a stigma and now it's everywhere. Much like weed had a stigma and not long ago I saw where I could door dash edibles...world's changing.
