How long do the Spurs roll with Fox?

Look, I know it's premature reaction to yesterdays game. But I really liked what I saw from Castle and Harper. They definitely will be the backcourt of the future alongside Wemby. I get Fox can be a stopgap as those 2 continue to develop. But with how much Fox likes to dominate the ball, Castle and especially Harper might lose opportunities to develop their on-ball abilities.
Ideally, I think you could trade Fox for a bigger upgrade in the forward position, but I don't know how many teams will be interested in giving away solid role players for a guy who is just starting a big extension that lasts until 2030.

I agree that Fox, Harper, and Castle are an awkward fit. But is this really that much of an issue yet? I would roll with Fox and see how it works out. When Harper is really to take over, then make a decision.

This again? They just traded for him and handed him a max extension. He isn't going anywhere any time soon, especially not before we actually see the team player together. I love Castle and am high on Harper but let's be real, Fox at the moment is levels above them and we haven't really seen him and Victor healthy together at all. Let's let them play a few games before deciding he needs to be traded

Roll with him until the right deal presents itself. Obviously give it a shot with him first, though.

With Wemby's shotblocking behind them, Spurs can afford to roll with a 3-guard lineup. Castle can defend bigger wings anyways.

Yup. Castle's defense looked elite. We also saw just last night that Harper was guarding Flagg for part of the game..pretty successfully I might add. Now obviously Flagg is raw too but it gives a glimpse into how Harper could be utilized with other guards

With that contract, there's no viable way to make a good trade and expect any sort of equivalent return, let alone an upgrade.
I would wait until there's a problem to solve before doing anything. Wemby isn't going anywhere(God I hope not).

This year, Spurs will be fine with Fox, being a back-up for the start is okay for Harper for now, next season with 3rd year of Castle and sophomore season of Harper - it will be too crowded and Fox isn't good enough to invest in him instead of Harper-Castle duo. He's still good enough for Spurs to get some decent role players though, so next offseason may be pretty difficult for the Spurs decision-wise.

Spurs fortunately are talented enough to settle with decent role players for Fox and this is easily within a reach, he's still a borderline all-star under 30.

Yeah, Harper & Castle aren't small guards, they're 6'6" and 6'7" in shoes.

The risk of seeing how it plays out with Fox, is bad play and/or injury and having to attach a first round pick or two or take back another bad contract in a trade.
He looked pretty bad in the small sample he had with the Spurs last year. He had a .537 TS in the 17 Spurs games and his ppg dropped to 19.7 from 25 with the Kings.

The real question is would your team trade an expiring this year to get him for the next three? Speaking for the Magic, no thank you.

I’m fine with them rolling with 3 guard lineups but Vassell/Johnson/Barnes isn’t going to cut it rebounding and defensively with that lineup. Can Sochan be that guy at the 4 in that unit? Possibly but he had to improve his shooting.
A big that can rebound and shoot would be awesome in that spot. Big reason why I’m dumbfounded Spurs didn’t target a guy like John Collins in offseason.

This seems the best approach. See how well he does, and just sit on it until and unless a good deal comes through. No sense making a move just to make a move.

I dont see the contract aging well simply because they have two blue chip prospects in the backcourt in addition to fox. But currently, it is a luxury to have such depth and a vet presence there since they are so young.

I don't see a big issue. Harper is tall, you can play him at the 3 with Fox and Castle in the backcourt. I think it's only a problem if you're of the opinion that Fox is a ballhog who won't play within the system, but I'm not sure he is. He should be given a chance at least. And by chance, I mean at least this season.

Fox was allegedly playing with a screwed up finger though. He’d normally be more efficient than that

Those saying that Fox/Harper/Castle can play together because of their size: that’s not the issue. The issue is that none of them can shoot.

Than that, yes. But efficiency hasn't been his strength outside of one season. He literally has only a single season of league-average or better efficiency, and it took him shooting at a wildly outlier level inside the arc, so I wouldn't really be expecting that again.
But certainly better than 53 or 54%, for sure.
