So it begins already... Mark Williams out for load management
After playing a grueling 14 minutes last night ! The NBA is the worst of all the pro sports. They get paid the most of them all, and miss the most games of them all.
But yea, I can see why The Lakers ultimately passed on him despite the fact they were being given him for a bag of Doritos and a couple stale donuts

Re: So it begins already... Mark Williams out for load management
There's clearly something very wrong with him physically. Imagine gloating when the Lakers get eliminated from the playoffs to get load managed at the beginning of the following season.
I feel for him and hope he has a long career, but the Lakers made the right decision and the Hornets getting publicly mad at the Lakers while having no case to present the league was telling. Also I reject the premise of the thread. Knecht (the 17th pick), a future first, and a future swap is not peanuts. That was a massive overpay. It's closer now with Knecht stinking it up, but a first is still way too much for Williams.

Lakers definitely found something wrong with him long term to suddenly pass on trading for him. They don't have an incompetent medical team, especially in California of all places.

I mean Mitch Robinson hasn't even played this season, he's been DNP - rest, so it could always be worse.

My brother travelled all the way from Australia to watch him play and this is what he gets. What a bummer.

Re: So it begins already... Mark Williams out for load management
I thought Mark Williams was out to start the season. He has a right knee injury. I thought it was surprising he played at all. He is listed as out for today's game. Why are people upset that an injured player is having his minutes managed? I find the "load management" discourse has just become whining and rage bait.
Your brother travelled halfway around the world... to watch Mark Williams?

hahaha Lakers were right all along.
Also didn't he vow to make the Lakers regret it or something like that?

We'll never know what the Lakers saw in his physical, but it was well discussed at the time that Mark Williams' health over the next few seasons would inform how that move is perceived.

That's true, I'm not laughing at him for being injured or anything like that, I'm mostly laughing because he vowed the Lakers will regret not trading for him or what ever the words exactly were.

Ohhh I wasn't aware he commented on that.
I guess... you got to be confident as an athlete? I wonder what it feels like to get medically red-flagged. He's still on his rookie contract, and NBA players have a pretty brief window to try to get as filthy rich as possible. Must suck to be informed your window might be way shorter than you envisioned. Didn't stop Kawhi though, haha.

Mark Williams has never played more than 44 games in an NBA season and played 106 games his first 3 seasons, clearly there are some health issues there, really nothing to be criticizing anyone about.
What do you want them to do? Just let him go out and continue his 30 game/season career because they didn't want to hold him out when there are some health concerns?

Re: So it begins already... Mark Williams out for load management
i remember the pistons traded for donatas motiejunas and cancelled the trade after his medical. his agent was furious they flagged him during the medical and called it malpractice and such.
he played 34 games the next season for the pelicans and then was out of the league.
it sucks for williams but when availability is the best ability and your injuries start compounding then you better start thinking of a plan b. i'm assuming during medicals they don't just look at your current state but look at your entire medical history so when the injuries start piling up it's more of a smudge on your medical record.

23 years old and load managed after 2 games.

Funny thing is the Hornets actually filed a complaint to Lakers when they nixed the trade for Mark Williams after the medical examination as if they didn't know that dude is already broken beyond repair so they played victim and wanted some justice.

The amount of talk about a guy who's mediocre is amazing.

Mike Brown's saying it's part of their plan due to Mitch's multiple ankle surgeries in the past 2yrs. He's definitely rested coming into the season.

I'm not sure I understand why the Suns wanted him at this point. He's got talent but what good is it if he's not playing?

Didn't they just need Centers and no one was around at the time?
