Im not going to call him the worst, because he did put together the team that went to the finals, but that luka trade looks egregious haha. I was defending when it happened too

[Cato] There had been signs that Harrison was underwater in his front office role. In the first years, executives found it curious how difficult it was to reach him on the phone... One team source recalls a document where Harrison placed Jrue Holiday within the same tier of talent as Nikola Jokić.

It's hard because often or not the owners pressure guys to get a trade done. People say Billy King is **** but he was forced to get a competitive team with big names from his owner.

I'm biased but I really do think Layden/Isiah take this. Those two managed to make a generation of superstars find NY repulsive to play-in. Sterling did the same with the Clippers but he wasn't trying to win. He just didn't want to spend money on the team, ala Reinsdorf. Layden/Isiah did want to win in NY and were so bad at it no one wanted to play in NY for years.

Divac
Isiah Thomas(I'm still convinced he had photos or something on Dolan lol)
Baylor
Hinkie
Kahn

I still give King and Nico a pass because they did have teams that made the Finals.

lol. Divac isn’t even the worst Kings GM in the Vivek era for Sac, let alone ever across the league.

Everyone from the Kings post 2005.
Everyone from Charlotte.
Post 2004 Dumars.

Guys who signed Mozgov and Deng to LAL and traded Ibaka to Orlando need to be investigated.

Single worst trade of the century is Luka hands down.

I just heard the story of the guy who traded the Celtics for the Clippers and then the next year they drafted Larry Bird.

I know that’s not the GM, but what a terrible trade that guy made. “Hey, here is the best team in NBA history. I’ll give it to you in a swap just so I can go to LA and play second fiddle”.

Sheesh.

Rob Babcock who traded Vince Carter for a player who didn’t show up, two first round picks, and a journeyman or two.

Stu Jackson. His incompetence ruined the Grizzlies in Vancouver. Drafting 3 point guards in a row who managed to fail upwards by landing a job in the NBA offices in New York. Didn't help that ownership was a swinging carousel combined with a weak Canadian dollar, but man it was infuriating.

Will never forget the whole Steve Francis debacle and then trading him for chump change.

To be honest, this move is unexcusably bad in a totally unprecedented way.
There are some that might have been more damaging in hindsight, but that's because they involved picks that turned out to be super valuable, or young players who blew up.
This is the only case I rememeber of someone trading away a tier 1 guy in his prme against his will, for such an underwhelming package.
Nico will never be beaten.

The thing is that it looked like Nico finally began to get his act together by acquiring PJ Washington and Danny Gafford and drafting Dereck Lively after years of not providing solid big men for the Mavs.

Then the next season after that he sells Luka super low and doesn't even entertain any offers for him. Had Nico shopped around and got a reliable star for Luka he wouldn't be labeled one of the worst GMs in recent history.

The Luka trade might be the dumbest trade in US / Canada sports history.

This guy will be known for it forever.

Sam Hinkie? Seriously? It was Colangelo that ruined the process.

Sam Presti copied Hinkie's strategy and look how it worked out with given time. Remember, like 5 years ago people were mocking Presti too but nobody's laughing now.

Anyway, we had some really bad GM's in the past. And this one move will definitely put Harrison in mix for the WOAT. Zeke was bad puting a good team together but he was actually pretty good at drafting outside of the lottery. Baylor had a big handicap named "Donald Sterling". No GM could have had success with him as the owner. Divac and Kahn? WOAT? Nah, not really. Billy King is surely in the mix. Someone mentioned Ted Stepien but he was the owner of the Cavs and not their official GM.

The guy I'd vote for is post 2004 Joe Dumars. He singlehandedly destroyed the best team in just a couple of season and turned a potential dynasty into a mess they are starting to recover now 15 years later. Ironically he did an amazing job pre 2004 with only one big mistake that probably every GM would have done at that time. Trading Grant Hill for Ben Wallace and a 30ppg scorer at that time in Jerry Stackhouse for Rip Hamilton or signing Chauncey Billups for basically the MLE were gold as well as drafting Tay Prince outside of the lottery.

There are far too many bad GMs to label one as the worst. Most of them are incompetent on my opinion, but the most underrated GM of all-time is Jerry Krause.
