What if the NBA had no salary cap like in baseball?

Post#1 » by D.Brasco » Sat Nov 15, 2025 1:09 am

With how dominant and marketable Shohei Ohtani has been, one could argue that his once considered absurd $700 million contract is now actually, an underpayment. Regardless, what if the NBA had no salary cap? and could offer mega mega sized contract like in the MLB. What impact would that have on teams and player salaries?

The clippers would field 5 all-nba players and the league would be annoying. Just like the MLB is

Wemby would probably get close to Ohtani money. North of 500 million dollar contrast easy. Most likely around the 600 million mark but who knows. Guerrero jr got 500 from the Blue Jays and Wemby is easily more value by comparison, not quite Ohtani level though, even though I think Ohtani is actually underpaid for what he provides.

Since the same ownership that owns the Dodgers owns the Lakers, the Lakers would become the Dodgers. Clippers would become the Mets/Padres. Just spending money with no idea how to construct or develop.
