It’s been stupid and pointless from the beginning and the sooner they get rid of it the better.

What do you think of the NBA Cup?

Post#1 » by Ken D » Sat Nov 15, 2025 1:20 am

Now that we’re in year 3 of the NBA Cup and we’ve all seen it in action for a couple of years what does everyone think?

I acknowledge some people like it but to me its inferior to standard regular season games and has not grown on me even a little bit. I watch because its NBA basketball but I don't like it.

The floors are vomit-inducing.

Why is it inferior? It is a regular season game.

The only thing I would change is the schedule. I agree with the article that say the NBA cup Finals should be on Christmas day and I think the two or 3 weeks prior should just be all cup games.

It's still not considered a big deal. The Bucks just won it last year, yet I've heard no slow down about how much the Bucks have failed Giannis since 2021.

before the cup we had very few teams playing hard on friday nights. As we have seen in the last 2 years and the gambling scandals.... you can get these guys to do a lot for less money than you think .

It is a regular season game but with fake contrived importance, and ugly floors. Inferior imo.

I give just as much of a **** as I would a regular season game, but I’m less likely to watch because of the flooring burning through my retinas

It’s underrated, but the idea should be taken further.

Make the first 1/4 of the season NBA Cup games.

Make the divisions/groups more interesting.

Make winning it more consequential to the standings.

Voted 50/50. It doesn't affect me too much in either direction. Or, equally in both directions.

There has to be a better solution with the courts, though. Maybe have the players wear neon pink (home) and neon green uniforms (away), but leave the courts normal.

jk. I'm just brainstorming.

The players clearly care about the NBA Cup, so that’s a positive from an effort perspective.

As a fan, it needs tweaking. These are just normally scheduled regular season games dressed up with fancy courts and a trip to Vegas for four teams with one team winning money. The reason cups work in fútbol is they are played across all divisions with teams of different caliber. It’s not Premier League teams only playing Premier League teams nor La Liga teams playing only La Liga teams, etc. That creates similar intrigue to the opening rounds of March Madness where smaller schools nobody knows anything about beat bigger schools that get a lot of media attention.

the warriors are playing the spurs, all the hall of famers are there. the crowds going crazy, draymond getting into it with victor. like Sabonis turning the hell up for this too and the wolves had to match his energy to blow it open.

Best innovation done by Silver. The single round robin puts some sense of urgency but i think they can even do a double round robin.

The players are buying it now too, so great for the NBA.

I have no feelings about it. I simply don't care/ignore it. I just hope the Lakers don't make the final, I don't want them playing an extra game. Hope OKC plays an extra game.

As I said, the big positive is the players play hard in Cup games. However, as a fan, for the Cup idea to be compelling, it should be a world exhibition with NBA teams playing in groups with Euroleague teams, etc. Simply calling typical regular season games Cup games doesn’t add intrigue,
