S***. Needless to say, but this really sucks. There goes his DPOY Award and All-NBA nomination for a 2nd straight season too.

All we asked from the basketball gods was for this kid stay healthy for a while... It appears that was too much to ask.

Sit him out over a month. He's an International Treasure who must be protected!!!

Spurs are known for being patient. Let him sit out months if necessary. Durability or availability really is one of the most valuable things stars can provide.

I feel like this is what his career is gonna be..........playing 40-60 games with a few smaller injuries every season.

This guy actually has a chance to be the best ever but not the greatest ever. Won’t be durable enough.

this sucks. idk if he's going to qualify for DPOY again.

We're going to end up with something weird like Immanuel Quickley making 3rd team all-nba. I'm assuming they rework that 65 game rule next summer.

Feels like it's so many calf strains around the league in recent year or two. But i understand teams want to be careful.

I wouldn't say that I am overly concerned about Wemby as an injury prone guy yet. I'd be content to exclude something like the blood clot from contributing to that tag as it is an abnormal malady instead of a basketball related thing.

71/82 games played in year one.
46/52 games played in year two (pre blood clot)

This is only expected to be a few weeks and he was 12/12 before it.

To compare, Luka Doncic has a career high of 70 games played in a regular season (2 of those were covid shortened seasons), plus played only 50 last year, and missed several games this season. We are all comfortable in him as a long term player and a player that can be trusted in a playoff run.

If I were the Spurs, before every season I would build a separate Wemby schedule. Set the max at 65 games so he still has a chance to take home individual awards (even though it would benefit the Spurs if he never gets any so they can avoid the Super Max).

Because let’s be real, extremely tall players don’t have a history for lasting long. Then add on how freakishly tall Wemby is and his play style. It screams a very short career (or at least prime).

So ya I’d sit down at the start of every season and find a way to get him to a 65 game schedule while maximizing rest time in between games.

A real bummer. The guy is just so, so good - and ever so marketable and healthy for the game.

We'll be hearing a whole lot of hot takes the next month.
