Philly fined again for injury report violation

Post#1 » by The4thHorseman » Yesterday 3:56 pm

The NBA fined the 76ers $100,000 for violating the league's injury reporting rules. Philadelphia initially ruled star center Joel Embiid out for a Nov. 30 contest against the Hawks, but he ended up playing in the resulting 142-134 double-overtime loss. The final line of the release -- "The fine takes into account the 76ers' prior history of fines for violating injury reporting rules." -- is notable.

Cold world to fine the team for actually playing their injury-prone player despite thinking he wasn’t going to be able to go. We should be rewarding that sort of thing!

Nonsensical. The only reason this is an issue is because the league has decided to cater to degenerate gamblers.

I think it's more catering to the sportsbooks, given recent history of people 'in the know' leaking if someone will/will not play, allowing gamblers to get a leg up on the books.

Sportsbooks and degenerate gamblers. To-may-to, to-mah-to.

Difference is if it was degenerate gamblers getting screwed, there'd be no consequences for the NBA teams.

If it's the sportsbooks being screwed by potential leaks of injury status, then there's a consequence. Such is life :banghead:

The league fined teams for not playing their star players, and now the league is fining teams for playing their star players. What a clown show.

Why is the NBA fining a team for allowing their player to actually play?

No we really shouldn't. There's so much potential for abuse there both with gambling and pure gamesmanship. Plus it can impact the secondary ticket market in ways unfair to fans.

Obvious solution: if a team lists a player as out, that player isn't allowed to play. I don't know why this situation even exists.
