Post#1 » by thaAteam » Sun Jan 6, 2008 5:25 am

with 2 minutes left in the game and their down by 20, all they do is prolong the game. their is no 20pt play in the playbook so why waste time. i understand they are still teaching but please, teach on the bus or at shoot around, cuz if your team is down 20 then your doing everything wrong that night and a 20 second timeout aint gone fix it

why are you still watching the game when there's a 20 point lead late in the 4th quarter?

switch it over to grey's anatomy or the gilmore girls or something if useless timeouts upset you so much.

maybe they are playing grbage time youngsters and want to run gametime drills for them? Practise is one thing, but gametime is very different, even if your down big, you need to get the kids ready

Tru. They're taking the opportunity while a loss is inevitable to run shh that they may need at the end of a close game.

They didn't point it out because the OP said timeoutS (ssss...plural), not timeout (singular). As in...when a coach calls 3 timeouts in the last 30 seconds. Smoke em if you got em.

Coaches call timeouts when they're down big because they're still coaching their team. The game might be over, but they still have to coach as if it's not.

Mandatory timeouts are called when play stops right under 9 minutes, 6 minutes and 3 minutes in each quarter.

In college it is called right under 16 minutes, 12 minutes, 8 minutes, and 4 minutes in each half.

Yeah. It's much easier to notice this if you have a coach who bases his rotations around these stoppages. Riley will normally pull Shaq at that third timeout in the first, then put him in after the first one in the second. Sloan has also been known to be religious to a fault with these sorts of rotations.
