im only curious about this because the nfl ref that choked the player last week go fined a game check which was around 9000, so that means in a 17 game season he made 150,000. why play and get hit when u can make that kinda money as a referee, what the nba rate

had a thread on this awhile back. believe it was anywhere between 90,000 and 130,000 per season. i think each official refs around 70-100 games. so a little over 1000 per game?

No matter the level it is a stressful and thankless job. Whoever quoted 90-130,000 is accurate and the senior officials will work about twelve games a month average X 6 months would be 72 games, the rookies will work about 60.
So you're a starting official, 90,000 into 60 games (conservative estimate)=1500 a game. Course there are workshops they must attend and evaluate each and every call made every game (also at half time of the games they work). They have weekly, sometimes daily tests/quizzes and game situations to go through.
So really those veteran officials may make more than some scrub players do. Not too shabby and for their ages they are in better shape than probably a good portion of the average NBA fan.
Also consider the travel they go through. Some don't make it home in weeks amount of time

With players making millions it is expected that refs make at least $100,000

Wow, that's excellent pay. Imagine how rich Bavetta must be now. But yeah like mentioned the job is much harder than it looks, constantly get questioned by fans, players, media etc and really have to be in good shape (specially if you're reffing Phoenix-Golden State haha) and really have to an eye to stay so focused during the game.

man they should make at least $150000 or more. that has to be one of the more stressful jobs on the planet. in the NFL, you have what, 6 other ref's there to back you up and only concentrate on specific areas of the game. in the nba, its you and 2 other guys and you have to make and see everything.
