I was thinking about this the other day. I think if LArry Brown was there he would make them come out hard every night and actually turn them into a better defensive coach than they are.

It's not like D'Antoni helps their O, cuz Nash does that. One time D'Antoni was asked was adjustments he was gonna make on offense and he said "Oh Steve will just watch tape and he'll know what to do".

And it's not like the guy coaches defense. It's not like he gets them motivated.

I think Stan Van Gundy or Carslile might do it too unless they tried to slow down their offense.

Any coach can make the Suns a championship team when you have Nash, Amare, Marion, Bell, Diaw, Barbosa, and Hill.

Larry Brown would destroy that franchise. In case you haven't noticed, he has a pretty notable scorched earth policy. He's been successful, but things never end well. I don't think he would help the Suns. LB prefers a half court set, which would destroy Phoenix. They are at their best when they run the other team into the ground or out of the building.

Larry Brown would have to make them play D. I don't think that's gonna work.

We're not even in the bottom 15 in defensive efficiency, yet you act like we're near dead last.

he would destroy it. he's way too old, ego'd and washed up. maybe nash could go sprewell on his ass. i wish larry brown would disappear.

i would say carlisle would be slightly better, the guy is a pro at maximizing talent (see the post-brawl pacers) he'd love working with a guys like raja and shawn who can defend and shoot. and he would slow things down to get the most out of marcus banks i imagine. the real question is (and it was the main reason tinsley was terrible under him) is because he didn't let tinsley just create and go with the flow -- he micromanaged the offense. now tinsley is certainly not nash and nash is a much better shooter (which carlisle has a history of preferring -- see him starting anthony johnson over tins) would carlisle and nash get along? rather would carlisle ease up and let nash flow? i tend to think he would but it could happen, even with nash.

i think d'antoni could coach them to a championship too but he needs a defensive guy in the vein of dick harter to slap some sense into amare and convince him to think about defending someone.

And Marion would go AWOL on him in about a day or two since he's also not tough enough to play under Brown. Amare would just continue to suck at defense and not give a damn... So no LB wouldn't make the Softs a championship caliber team.

He would make them worse. D'antoni isn't their problem, their problem is lack of depth up front. I still want them to trade Diaw for Dalembert if they could. Sammy D would be a perfect fit in the run and gun offense and let Amare focus a little more on offense.

I guarantee there would be at least a couple of games where Amare got benched in favour of Brian Skinner.

So no, it wouldn't work. The Suns are successful because they play the opposite of Larry Brown basketball.

Yeah, like the Pistons in the East. They won a title with him, and have been to basically every ECF for six years, and won 64 games the year after Larry scorched their earth. In case you haven't noticed, the Pistons are doing pretty well right now with a near identical situation to what Brown left.

The constant defensive mind-set would be there with Brown, but the personnel they have still wouldn't be enough. They'd be a limited defensive team in how effective they'd be, because of certain personnel lackings.

More size up front to defend and rebound (bench and starting line-up). More balanced up front.

Also would need to get a wing-player that can defend the point guards. Phoenix has nobody to effectively defend small guards.

Banks should be able to do it, but he's not in the rotation, and is questionable at best if he ever is. Can't be gambling for steals too much, either. Needs to have some discipline there.

Marion can be and is put on them, but is not proven to be effective over-time in guarding them.

Bell usually doesn't guard them, guarding the bigger wings. And if/when he has, I don't know of any established positive results.

Strawberry's a rookie and still probably wouldn't get in the rotation under Brown. Can't really be relying on him anyway yet, on a championship ambition team. 1-2 (probably two) years away until he's a rotation player, and then, he will be the answer or another option. I really dig his game, by the way.

In a nutshell - they still wouldn't be able to protect the basket.

I disagree, because of still not having the size up front, and a reliable defensive option for small guards.

They'd win their title right after LB trades Steve Nash for Eric Snow.

You bring in a coach to fit the personnel, not to try to make the personnel fit the coach.
