Well, believe it or not, Yao is hands down (by a pretty fair sized margin) the best center in the West. His only real competition at the spot is Howard, who plays in the East. You do of course have a legitimate argument for McGrady. In all justice, Nash/Iverson and Paul would start. But you never see Kobe anywhere but the starting lineup, even if others are playing better, do you? Same deal with McGrady. He gets a lot of Chinese votes thanks to Yao.

And this is obviously potentially inflammatory. You might want to consider changing the title, its a little bit of a lock magnet.

Houston's playing subpar ball (for them) so far this season, but it isn't like they haven't competed with the good teams or anything. They only Western Conference playoff bound team they have a losing record against is Dallas and Golden State, and with everyone else (including the Magic, Pistons) they have at least an even record. And they held their own against Boston (lost by 4) without Tmac. They've been playing well lately, and I'd be willing to bet they'll find a way to the playoffs yet.

Why should McGrady make the team over guys that deserve it more , like Iverson, Paul, etc.

yeah the all-star game is about individual accomplishment so who cares if they are .500 but i don't think T-Mac deserves it at all.

The simple answer: he shouldn't.

McGrady has an enormous advantage by having Yao on his team. Lost of Chinese players will just vote for every Rocket on the ballot. Some will vote for Kobe though, thanks to his marketing campaign there recently.

Honestly, there have been years in the past (if perhaps not this year) when either Kobe or McGrady or both or any number of other All Star starters who had no business being there. That's what happens when you let the fans vote. The best players will at least play some, as the coaches of the two teams will get everyone on the floor and make sure the most deserving get picked to play.

because the all star voting (as with every sport) is a popularity contest and nothing more.

I wish they would show what the votes are like in different countries. Do Chinese voters even watch NBA basketball outside of Houston and Bucks game? I doubt its even available.

Thats right ^^^ its a popularity contest. And its for the fans, Chinese or otherwise. ALL-NBA Team is the one to watch

Those 10 guys are most likely going to get in. That leaves 2 more open spots.

With the game being in New Orleans, and New Orleans having the possibility of entering the All-Star break with the best record in the West, does this mean they'll get a 2nd All-Star? Either David West, who's putting up close to 20 and 10 or a guy like Tyson Chandler, who isn't as deserving as say a Chris Kaman, who plays for a bad team.

Or will the last spots go to guys like A.I. who make the team every year?

Will Golden State get a guy in? Portland perhaps?

How much will a teams record have to do with the final selections?

Do guys like Kaman and Al Jefferson have no shot because their teams are so bad?

I wish they would do like baseball and expand the rosters a bit, say to 15 players.

They need to have some kind of BBall IQ test before letting a fan vote...I'm sick of seeing Kobe and TMac start every single f**king year for the West when there are usually at least 2-3 more deserving candidates.

What the hell are you talking about???? Last time I checked, teams don't get elected into the ASG, players do.

Team ranking has NOTHING to do with fan votes, if you haven't figured that out yet you need to find a new hobby.

The NBA should implement a rule that after a player misses a certain amount of games, he's no longer elegible for the ASG..

Baron Davis is going to get screwed over and not make it.

Ughh name 2-3 deserving candidates that should be starting for the Western Conference All-Stars team instead of Kobe Bryant, and don't say Barpn Davis because Kobe Bryant > Baron Davis.

Yeah McGrady doesn't deserve it this year. I haven't even voted for him this season.

I think Baron will get snubbed which is a crime IMO, he's having a fantastic season and GS would make the playoffs if it started today. If it stays the same McGrady/Kobe are the starters. Nash, Iverson and Paul are locks IMO, which leaves one more spot, which I feel they'll select Brandon Roy.
