HOLY CRAP. JULES WINNFIELD WHO IN THE BLUE HELL SAID THAT QUOTE IN YOUR SIG? Duncan would turn Smush into Tony? Wow. Wow.

Does that guy even post here any more? I imagine he got laughed out of the forum.

Well back on topic the Lakers can't beat Boston and San Antonio. No way. And to be a contender you gotta have a chance at winning a title.

I feel the same way I hate the hype, it makes me nervous. but I love theis team. best team (in talent as a team) the lakers have had since 1996 or 2000

Lakers can reach the Finals as long as they have someone (Dallas/Phx) knock out SAS for them. I think they can beat Dallas and Phx, or at least make go to 7.

Did romping the lakers last game make us contenders? Then why does beating us make you contenders...?

The Hornets aren't the only team the Lakers have beaten... :banghead:

Oh and btw, the Lakers were 7 and 6 in that stretch when they played yall..

Since then, they're on a 15 and 3 or 4.... You also needed an unbelievable shooting performance from Peja to beat them...

Either way, the Lakers are playing pretty darn well and Bynum is better than expected. People expected him to be ok and continue to improve...but no one thought that the 20 year old would come in and average a double double in less than 30 minutes....

Add to that Jordan Farmar, who has emerged as a legit athletic NBA point.

ADD TO THAT Derick Fisher who no one expected was going to be this good after coming off the bench for the passed few years...

All of this and Kobe has been playing mediocre offensively due to knee tendonitis.. a groin injury...a jacked up shooting wrist. He's less than 85% healthy but he won't admit it.

I still don't think they are a contender...

Theres the Spurs, Suns Celtics and Pistons who the Lakers can't beat in a series.

Well for one thing, that game was only the 4th game of the season. This Laker team has matured a ton since then. Bynum wasn't even a starter at that time!

Secondly, the Lakers were without Lamar Odom, who was their 2nd best player at that time. He is now the Lakers' 3rd best player.

Third, Peja Stojakovic will never, EVER....for the remainder of his career...EVVVAARRRR...make 10 threes in a game. The Lakers were slow on their rotations and Peja was as streaky as he's ever going to be.

Fourth, the Lakers were extremely slow and unathletic at the 3 position, and as a result always got burned from opposing teams' small forwards. Since that game they have acquired Trevor Ariza, who as we saw tonight, can impact a game defensively. He's been huge for the Lakers and has fit in seamlessly.

But anyway, I agree this game does not make the Lakers contenders. It's just one game. The Spurs and Celtics are the only contenders in the NBA right now.

Lakers are playing better then they were then NO beat them, and the lakers went into NO and beat them by almost 30 and blew up out early on. When NO went into staples it was a close game. No way NO beats LAL in a series.

I think you have to consider the Lakers contenders meaning they have the potential of getting to the WCF. I think that would qualify as a contender.

all depends on match-ups.
the only team in the west i fear is the spurs.

other than that, i think they have a good shot against everyother team.
