Complaining and Whining

I'm sorry, I'm sick and tired of it all. Every NBA game I watch, all game long, players and coaches complain non stop.

Even on calls that are obviously against them, they complain. Just to bias the ref for the next time down.

People wonder why NBA refs suck so much? Yes, they aren't the best in sports, but what other sport as a constant stream of complaining like the NBA. How can they possible focus on the game, when they have constant complaints?

Football, Baseball, and Hockey just don't tolerate it. Sure you can say the odd thing to the ref, but I have yet to see 2 consecutive minutes of gameplay this year (honestly 2 minutes) where there was no whining.

For me, this is the most unattractive part of the NBA game.

I was loving life when Stern instituted that "no toleration" rule in the beginning of either last season or the season before. Complain to a ref for 2 seconds? Technical, no questions asked.

Unfortunately, that isn't really in effect anymore.

That zero tolerance thing sucked, I saw more bad technical calls than I did good ones. Guys would get upset at themselves for messing up and the refs would whistle them for a technical.

In such a fiercely competitive sport, its stupid to believe that you can get ultra-competitive guys to be emotionless drones.

I've noticed the complaining more this year than in years past, but I always laugh when I see a player complaining and not getting back on defense, the ref isn't going to change their call so stop hurting your team and get back on d...

^I've seen less of it this year, than in years past.

It's definitely not becoming, but I guess I've been watching for so long that I don't even notice it any more. It certainly doesn't make me love or enjoy the game any less.

Of course you haven't. The Heat aren't relevant anymore so they don't get the amount of help from the refs they once did.

I hate it and it's annoying. This is a sport, not a debate. Let your play do the talking. And I hate the fact that flopping is a skill set now. We need red cards in the NBA, then these guys will knock it off.

As a spin off to this topic which players dont you ever see complain my votes for my unofficial team would Darko always called for some stupid **** when he goes for blocks and Rudy Gay who just seems like he is always cool and collected.

I can't stand to see player's do that . What's the friggin point ? The call isn't gonna be reversed . The player's should shuddup and play . Let the coaches do the complaining .

Thanks for that mind-numbingly (Please Use More Appropriate Word) remark of a response......

Now, back to the point I was TRYING to make. -- The Pistons, one of the teams that fans across the boards complain about, aren't whining/moaning to the refs as much as they did in the past. And, I've watched plenty of Pistons games this season.....

It's natural instinct.

When you're on the court/field/rink, you do things that you would 2nd guess the second you are off of it, and no longer playing.....

I think you almost have to make it a muscle memory thing. The moment they start, they remember there's a strict penalty, so they don't.

I'm not saying other sports don't have it, but it isn't nearly on the level of the NBA. NBA refs take more abuse than almost all of the others combined. I don't think its a coincidence that they are the worst of all the sports.

^That's the thing, and you hit it right on the head; the penalty.

There was a notion from the get-go of the season to penalize such players from whining, before it even became that. And it seemingly worked, to an extent.

But, as the season went on, the complaining just got worse and worse, and you didn't have the refs coming with the T's as quick as they were to get the season going.....

Yeah, just seems to ingrained into the sport now. Almost like cheating in baseball.

Actually, if you complain, you let the refs know that you're not going to take any BS calls. When coaches complain, they are standing for their team.

Complaining and harassing refs are part of the game. What separates rookies and veterans is the ability to complain and talk to the refs. If you're a rookie, the refs don't care about you. If you're a veteran, they'll listen.

+1

I hate when players do that for the exact reason you stated...they're not changin' the call.
