I really think the NBA allows to many timeouts in the NBA. I mean these are professional teams, they train to keep their stamina high so they can run out games with ease. Yet they get so many timeouts and so many chances to get a rest, to many chances.
I remember watching the Portland vs Chicago double OT game, each team had 5 timeouts.....are you kidding? That means we have to see 10 timeouts in 5 minutes of play... I know teams have to set up plays to run and stuff, but 5 timeouts for 5 minutes of play is just silly.
I really think the NBA should cut back on the timeouts allowed to each team.
Why do NBA teams get so many Timeouts?

Well, its a disgrace. Advertising or not.
Advertising of all things should not have any effect on an NBA game. Why dont they just run adverts at the bottom of the screen while the game is playing?
Seriously 10 timeouts in 5 minutes of play is just an absolute disgrace.
How about this, they only allow TWO full timeouts each half, and THREE 30 second timeouts each half.

the timeouts in overtime aren't for rest, they are for advancing the ball to mid court and setting up plays.
In a normal game, teams typically end up with 2 time outs plus a 20 at the end of regulation - the other time outs are scheduled timeouts for commercials. Overtime is set up to give them the same available timeouts down the stretch.
