Explain Portland to Me

Post#1 » by rayofsunshine » Sun Jan 13, 2008 8:03 pm

Imagine it's a week after it's announced that Oden is out for the season. I lapse into a coma, I have just come out of it. How would you explain portland to me?

Imagine how good they would be had they drafted Durant over Bowie.

No, I mean I don't know a thing about them. Who is their "star?"

A team full of hungry players with talent, that play basketball the right way....minus Darius Miles...who hasn't played yet. With a decent group of vets, minus Darius Miles.

They're too young to realize that a young team shouldn't have a chance in the Western Conference. The key will be how they respond to two or three losses in a row...if they can rebound from adversity and keep playing this well, they look like a playoff squad.

A team that's fueled by defense, passing, and great chemistry. Led by R.O.Y. Brandon Roy, and other young talent Travis Outlaw, LaMArcus Aldridge, and Martell Webster.

a team that got robbed in the first overtime becuz they called calderon's shot a 3 instead of what it actually was with his toe on the line, should have been a 2 and portland should have won that game, but whatever portland plays team basketball better than most teams in the league, they can shoot from outside and have a slashing star in brandon roy, once oden comes back next year they will be amazing, simply amazing!

Again Portland would probably HAVE NOT attempted that 3 pointer which led to a long rebound to Roy... Get over it...

there shouldn't have an overtime if the foul committed on delfino was called in the first place.

I think people underrate their other young players like Outlaw, Webster, Frye, Jack among others who have been quietly developing on losing teams over the past few years.

Its a combination of developing players and drafts over the years to go along with their two draft pick draft with roy and lma and excellent coaching.

Its not all on Roy, but he has put them over the top and the timing of this team with all its youth developing together and prior to Roy is something that doesnt happen to often.

In a few years Portland will be at the top of the hill

Their coach is their star. The team is young, but they do not make mistakes. They play very polished basketball. Regardless of individual talent and stats teams simply win and lose based on who makes the least amount of mistakes. Coach Nate has them playing basketball without many mistakes.

Also they are a team that shoots the jumper very well. From the baseline and from the 3. That hurts alot of teams when you do not make mistakes and you make your jumpers.

I would not consider LMA a star, but I think he fits very well with Roy and will fit very well with Oden. Brandon Roy is playing great and he is the personality type that buys into a system and does not make it about him, but about the team. You get those guys as your cornerstone with the amount of depth they have and it is a beautiful thing. It will be interesting to see how/if they are able to keep it all together or if they can trade some of the c/b prospect depth for another A prospect.

As the wolves mod I hope they do not, but I respect what they are putting together. It starts with an owner who wants to win, that is willing to get a very good coach and a GM that has a high BBIQ

They are an excellent home team, we need to see if they can keep it up on the road.

They're a team that's worse than their record indicates.

I don't know how they're winning either. Maybe they will come back to reality soon. I hate having to eat my words...
