As of today's Lebron's rounded numbers are 30/8/8/2stl/1block on 49% shooting.

For the first time his PER is over 30. To be exact, it's 30.22. Only 5 players in the history of NBA finished the seasons with a PER of 30+; Jordan (4 times), Wilt (3 times), Shaq (3 times), D. Robinson and T-Mac.

Do you think he can keep this incredible efficiency until the end of the season and finish with a PER of 30+?

Personally, I think it'd be very hard but not entirely impossible.

He's going to cool off eventually.

His PER was well over 30 whole November, he slipped little bit after injury in December and now he is back to "normal". He definitely has ability to maintain it as he has history of elevating his play in last months of season but it depends on a lot of things.

We're not even halfway through the season yet, so...

If anyone has a shot it's him.

It'll end up somewhere around 30, between 29.50 and 30.50. Finishing over the magic "30" threshold I think depends on whether he can stay healthy all year.

When he got injured, he had over 32. As long as he stays healthy, he'll get it back over 31 at some point.

Finishing the season with the highest PER is like winning the "Most Talented Player" award. You have to be extremely talented and possess a lot of all around basketball skills to finish with the highest PER and be the most efficient (highest productivity per minute).

The gap between #1 (30.36) and #5 (24.97) is about equal to the gap between #5 (24.97) and #37 (19.57).

LeBron is having a phenomenal season. Cleveland needs to get that guy some help... or trade him to the Lakers for Odom. :()

but Wade would have had a PER of 30+ last year if he didnt get injured (and miss a few games after 1st quarter).

However, staying healthy is half the challenge.

missing games after the 1st quarter is irrelevant to PER since the stat is adjusted to minutes played.

If t-mac had an over 30 per season i don't see why lebron couldn't do it. His current season is imo about equal or above in aspects to t-mac in 02-03.

No stat is perfect but out of all stats in sports I think it's the most telling for a player's effectiveness for any stat in sports.

The neat thing about it is that it compares players at all positions.


Is there a calculator where someone can caluclate it by themselves?

Im curious to see what Wilt Chamberlain's PER average is if you actually included BPG. No telling how many he had but it was at least 3. The most impressive thing about his rating is that Im pretty sure that it is a lot lower because that wasn't a stat.
