I really don't think Dwight or Yao are locks.

yao is certainly a lock with or without great stats. drazen petrovic is in the hall, and yao has a similar effect.

The same Drazen Petrovic that scored 112 in a game. I don't think Yao is a hall of fame caliber player. When I think of Ewing, Robinson, Russel, Magloire. . . etc, Yao is a tier below.
In my opinion at least.

Ewing never won anything and neither has Yao. But Yao is asian and has single handily made a nation all in love with basketball. You can't argue with that. Plus, he represents a positive image for a whole country in a time when its reputation isn't good at all.

I've never seen any of those guys play, so ewing may have been a bad choice. My main point is I have seen Yao Ming play, and I've never been "WOW, that man is amazing".
As to the bold, politics > HOF

nobody is lock
they haven't play enough in this league yet
they are not going to put someone playing less than 10 years in the HoF
they might suffer career ending injured in anyday

I'm sure there are plenty of cases where this has happened. But I understand your point.

Yao will make it into the Hall of Fame. The impact he has had on spreading the game internationally has been extraordinary and he has the stats to be at least a legitimate hall of famer.
And Magloire?
Jammal Magloire?
The same guy who can't get off the bench for the Nets? Please tell me there was another Magloire in the history of basketball because if you think this guy is better then Yao, your crazy.

I was wondering if that was a huge typo, haha. I think Paul has a very good chance at making it.

01 - none?
02 - Yao, Amare - maybe
03 - LeBron - yes Melo, Wade - maybe
04 - Dwight - maybe
05 - Paul, Deron - maybe
06 - doubtful any of them, pretty weak draft
07 - "Durant, coz he jacks up as many shots as he likes and shoots 40%!!!!"

No love for Gil? Another 8 years of scoring 25+/game and it doesn't matter how crazy he is, he'll make it.

Lebron and Wade needs two or three more good years to make it to the hall of fame

Everyone in this thread fails because they didn't say Bynum...who we all know is going to be a first ballot unanimous selection.

lebron will probably get in
yao will get in(if china is allowed to vote)
otherwise i'm not sure , wouldn't say he's a lock
dwight will get in if he keeps up his rapid improvement pace and becomes utterly dominate for about 8 years
everyone else its too early

Yao's definitely going to make it if he keeps this up for another 4-5 years. After all the changes in the league becoming fast paced, zone defense implemented, etc. Yao Ming is dominating as a two way center that can hit the inside shot and the outside shot. He blocks shots pretty nicely. Yao's a HOF barring any injury.
But you can never really tell though. It's too early. Look at all the players' careers cut short due to injury and drugs/booze. Penny Hardaway would've been a lock for the HOF if he hadn't been injured. Grant Hill might be in the HOF but he got injured a lot so that hurt his chances. I don't wish it on any of the NBA's bright stars of today but I'm sure there will be a few disappointments due to injury.

You never seen them play, yet you are saying yao is below them? How would you know? Base your opinions on waht you actually see.

I think some people fail to realize that it's the 'basketball hall of fame'.....not the 'NBA hall of fame'. Even though some of these guys may not have has the greatest NBA careers, stats or otherwise, their impact on the game of basketball is what will get them into the HOF.
