3rd best player of the past generation?..

most people agree that the 2 best careers of this past generation are Shaq and Duncan..it would be hard to argue otherwise IMO, when you look at the accomplishments of the others, unless the next 2 win a few MVP's or championships respectively..which leads me to my question..
assuming KG wins the MVP this year(with the Celtics hype, and the media dislike for Bean), who is the 3rd best player of the generation, Kobe or Garnett?..there is also the chance of KG coming off with a title this year, and Kobe has an outisde shot at both as well..

I don't think you can really argue against Kobe. The dude is a scoring machine and can carry teams by himself. KG is awesome but Kobe's more clutch and is the guy I'd pick to start a franchise with.

not gonna vote and not to discredit KG .. but hes never won a ring and never had many winning records in Minny and the years he did make the playoffs he lost to the guy hes going against in this pole ...

give kg shaq in his prime.....
why dont we give LeBron Ray Allen and KG
and MJ Hakeem and Clyde
those arguements never cease to amaze me Kobe was just as big a factor in those championship runs as Shaq
yes kobe has had a better team throughout his career before these past 3 seasons but thats not his fault
it's also vice versa for Shaq take Wade and kobe away and how many rings do you think he hoist up .. take Pippen away from MJ .. take McHale away from bird .. so many take and gives and what if's but in the end if it got you a championship then it shouldnt be argued ..
if they were critical and vital to the Chip it should never be argued ..
i say that because Slava has 3 but hes not better than KG obviously its whoever was Vital and they BOth were vital .. Kobe was no Scrub you could find off Free Agency
(On another note KG and shaq would have been 2 big men so there would not have been an Elite Guard to Penetrate and create, Dish and get fouls and for those big men ... so you could argue it might not have been as successful)

If you mention KG you have to mention AI. I would say he's had a few good years...

Kobe for now. If KG gets MVP and Finals MVP this year (which is quite possible), it'll be easily him.

i don't agree with using championship as the measuring stick, when you have one of the top 2 players of the generation and the most dominant big man in however many eons on the same team you are going to win titles
give shaq to any great player, and they win championships
what and if and what if all you want, i'm not doing it, i'm going with common sense. Kevin Garnett and Shaq in their primes on the same team are winning titles
this is not a post hating on kobe, please don't take it that way

While i agree in some ways .. like i said you cant discredit people for winning championships because they played with a someone .. you can if they didnt produce but both produced big time for that squad and couldnt do it without each other ..
So do we discredit the Celtics players ray Allen or Paul Pierce iff they win it this year ?
Do we mention the KG factor ? and say Wade or AI Or Kobe or leBron coud have done it just as easy or better ?
not bashing any of those players either just so you know i like ray ray a lot

To early to tell. I mean lets say KG helps make the Celtics a dynasty, it'd be hard to argue against that. Or lets say Andrew Bynum becomes a superstar quickly and Kobe wins another 2.

no, i wasn't discrediting Kobe
i was just saying for the sake of this argument, deciding the third best player of the generation, when the discussion is between a player, who had as the op acknowledges, had one of the top 2 most dominant player on his team for a period and won championships and one that did not play with a player of equal or greater dominance
its obviously going to be heavily slanted toward the player with one of the 2 most dominant players of the generation because of what they were able to accomplish while they were together

Kobe. I don't even have to think twice about it.

Kobe.
Kidd, and KG being the other two that deserve serious consideration. Then also add AI somewhere in the mix. Lebron, Wade, Dirk, and Nash deserve some consideration for the later part of this generation.

Impossible. Both of them would have commanded 100 mill in the late 90s marketplace. Who's taking the paycut? Not even KG's goofy little teammate Marbury could hack making that much less than his buddy.

If we valued players on salary, I would take 15 Scottie Pippens over 1 MJ and 14 Rusty LaRues.

For this qrgument, i am sticking to guys drafted during the 90s.
Its very hard to say.
there are many players who you can make arguments for as the best players.
I mean if you want most dominant in his prime, then its shaq.
if you wan the best scorer, then its kobe.
if you want consistently great, then duncan.
then you can get into some of the guys who were far more dominant earlier in the decade, like AI and C-webb.
plus you have to throw KG into the mix.
then you have to consider nash and kidd.
there are a lot of good players to consider.
