Well, kind of. You won't see any of the NBA brightest stars shooting from random spots on the court, but rather the brightest stars of the D-League. From Henry Abbott of TrueHoop:
I talked to the head of the NBA's D-League, Dan Reed, today (more on that later), and he told me the excellent news that this All-Star Weekend's Friday night festivities will include a D-League H-O-R-S-E competition.
Wait, the NBA is trying to use the All-Star Game's spotlight to feature their other properties? Shocking. I hope it works, though, because if it's successful and ends up featuring actual All-Stars, Rasheed Wallace would have that thing in the bag.
How stupid

It's D-League players though. Still, if this is successful maybe they will use NBA players in the future.

I can see this being a disaster, hopefully it works though, it could be pretty fun. Tas Melas and Skeets were discussing it on the basketballJones, not sure who it was but one of the two suggested they wire the players up so that they can talk the crowd through what they are going to do. I think it would be pretty cool if they did that, it probably wouldn't work if nobody was aware of the move/shot that they were going to take.
Should be interesting to see how it pans out.

I'm pretty sure that if they do it this year, it is a practice run in order to see if it could work or not. That's why they are using d-league players. If someone's gonna embarass themselves, better it be d-leaguers rather than actual NBA players.
As well, I hope they don't do this in the middle of the normal events. For one, there's going to be a lot of missed shots, and two a game of horse with d-leaguers might turn off alot of casual fans. It would be best if they show this like how they show the celebrity game, before the actual All-Star festivities and maybe on a different network, like ESPN or something.

Shaquille O'Neal vs Ben Wallace
Nothing allowed from inside the three point line allowed.
FTW!

That actually sounds better than any of the other events. Last All Star weekend had to be the most boring thing I actually sat through until the end. Why I did that to myself I do not know.

This is just the shooting stars event without the timer.

Not if they're actually trick shots and they get to plan and pick them. Shooting stars is just a straight shot from like 8 set places.

So they'll keep the dunk comp. at only 6 people, but they're going to add an hour-long horse game for the d-league?

im actually excited to hear this.. ASW was getting kind of boring for sure, so to add something new to spice things up is the right way to go, even if it is d-leaguers ... im quite sure it will draw well, and we probly will see real nba players in the future.. who doesnt love HORSE?

This is a good idea, it will show us just how good even D-Leaguers are when it comes to shooting while open. I'll definately watch that.

Will NBA players that have gone through extensive stints in the NBDL be eligible?

No one wants to see D-Leaguers in All-Star weekend.
It might be interesting, but it's more likely must to be another waste of time.
