James Jones pulls a Ricky* Davis

5 seconds left on the clock, players are walking off the court... Mcgrady puts the ball down and heads for the bench because the game is over - Jones dives for the ball (he was 0-5 this game) runs to the other side of the court and takes an uncontested layup with no one on the court (+1 steal).
Classy.

Oh yes, 1-6 looks so much better than 0-5...

If you have the guts to do that (and the other team lets you) then more power to you.

yeah that was pretty messed up.
The game was over, McGrady holding the ball with around 7 seconds left. McGrady puts the ball down to let it rest, all of the other Blazers on the court were walking towards their locker room, James Jones runs coast to coast grabbing the ball and getting a lay-up before the clock runs out.
EDIT: Reminds me of some other bad sportsmanship/selfish moments. I know Sura when he was on the Hawks was 1 rebound away from a triple double. At the end of the game, he had a free lay-up, decides to miss it on purpose to get the rebound, then tip it in.

i assume you meant ricky davis. and even then, its not as bad as shooting at your own basket. not even in the same hemisphere...

It's McGrady's fault, you don't lay the ball on the floor with more than 5 seconds left on the clock on someone else's court, especially when you're the ones up. That's disrespect. He should of dribbled the ball out up until the buzzer.

I don't think it's a big deal.

The losing team is allowed to take meaningless final shots.
If the Blazers were the ones up and he rushed to get that layup, that's one thing.

Uh, I don't think that guy's a Blazer poster...
So what if James wants to play all 48 minutes rather than 47:55? Last I looked if the season ended today we'd be in and your boys would be out. Too bad the McGrady/Yao experiment hasn't landed anything but first round exits so far. Oops!

Does shooting on your own basket and rebounding it count as a shot and a rebound? I always thought that it didn't.

It was actually 21 straight seasons, a professional sports record, from 1983 through 2003. Or we could just say 26 of 27 seasons starting in 1977.
We have missed the playoffs for four consecutive years. I have a feeling it won't be long until we're working on another decade-plus streak.
Historically, the Houston Rockets are a very impressive team. They are certainly a winning franchise by any definition.
