What player depends on his height the most?

Post#1 » by NetsForce » Thu Jan 31, 2008 11:57 pm

This may seem like an odd question but I thought it was a good / funny one, and it came to mind when I read a post on the player comparison board where someone said that if Bargnani were 2-3 inches shorter he would basically be Jason Kapono and no one would talk about his upside (end run-on sentence).

So my question is what players would be affected the most if they magically lost 1-2 inches off their current height? Thought of in another manner what players depend on their height the most?

Yao although skilled benefits a lot from his height. His hook is basically unstoppable because of his height.

Although if he where to be a normal height center I'm sure he would develope anotherway to score, because superstars will do just that.

Yao, all he does is cherry-pick around the rim.

Flip side of the coin: If Yao were shooter, he'd probably be more mobile/athletic.

If Yao were shorter he would probably be more athletic with the same skill set. And that would be just as potent.

If Yao was a foot shorter he'd be the same height as Michael Jordan and thus be the greatest ever.

The majority of players over 7'0" would not be in the league if they were at average league height.

Depends on how you shortened them. Take off their legs and none of them would get burn in the NBA. Excise their necks and they might not even crack d-league teams.

The funny thing about Yao is that if he magically did lose 1-2 inches of his height he would still be 7'3 or 7'4. Which would still make him the tallest player in the league.

I'd say talk about guys who are unskilled, and already short. Ben Wallace at 6'4'' would just be utterly useless. Chuck Hayes, too. Reggie Evans, Turiaf. Every hustle, undersized big CERTAINLY wouldn't be in the league if they were any shorter.
