Why is that when Lebron has a good night against Kobe, Kobe is passing the torch to Lebron. But when Deron Williams demolishes Chris Paul in one night it's just Chris Paul having a bad game?

Why is it Kobe only because of Shaq but Magic didn't win because of Kareem?

Why is it Nash can approach Magic but Kobe will never approach MJ?

If a single head to head game represents a larger trend, say the great play of LeBron all season, then it makes sense. If it's more an aberration, Paul usually playing better than Deron but not tonight, then it doesn't.

Ok. Now what does his likeability have to do with how good of a player he is? Michael Vick is an unethical dog killer but he's a good football player. Damon Jones is one of the nicest funniest guys you'll ever meet but he sucks at basketball.

Kobe uhh? Allegedly raped an emotionally disturbed girl? And now he can't be a good basketball player? Or he ran overpaid, overweight Shaq out of town according to the biased media?

Simple. A lot more Kobe haters. I have to say though I am a top Kobe Bryant fan, my favorite player, but he's not as good as MJ. I'm sorry, he's not as good. MJ has alot of more of everything, scoring isn't everything. In the 90's, if michael didn't retire the second time, he could have won probably 8 championships. It was good that he stopped at 6 though, but I thought he could have won 8. I don't think Kobe can win like MJ could. MJ was a winner, but now Kobe has the pieces so he could become that winner. I still don't think there will be anyone EVER as good as His Airness

Is that just the media? because you and I both know, stereotypes as well as generalizations and double-standards are everywhere. I'm not trying to hate on you, but creating this thread opens up the floor for all the Kobe haters to continue to criticize him. Kobe winning another championship, actually no...the LAKERS winning a championship is all I really care about.

People have the right to say whatever they want, but at the end of the day...it's just basketball.

There's probably more Kobe haters than any other player. Then again, he could possibly has the most fans, but not likely, Lebron, Dwade, KG, etc seems to be liked alot more than Kobe.

So even if a Kobe hater try to be objective (or thinks he is), there's always that lack of a benefit of a doubt because of that bias. Not going to name any names.

I think Rerisen more or less nailed it. Paul is a statistically better player than Williams, one head to head matchup doesn't change that.

Lebron is a statistically superior player to Kobe, he outdoes him in almost every catergory. When Bron outplays Kobe on a given night it is more of a symbolic thing because to many observers, that torch has already been passed.

... and I think there are way more Kobe-MJ comparisons than Nash-Magic and they are both unwarranted.

Just going on that topic...lol...how would you break down most liked? just in the U.S. or around the world? I think KG got the most votes for the All-star game, even over Yao Ming.

However, I think Kobe is very popular around the league too. How many other players can say they've gotten "MVP" chants from fans in different cities, especially a rival city like Boston. Not to mention when Kobe goes on tours like the Asia Tour, there are tons of fans.

the issue of likability answer your question. this isn't anything official these opinions, they are just fans opinions, and those opinions are filtered by their own beliefs about someone as a persona as well as a player

he brought most of it on himself. the legal trouble, the trade demands, the feuds, the need to score 50 points a game every other game - thats who he is.

completely competitive, but selfish at the same time. can't blame him, but also can't blame people that despise him.

he'll go down as one of the best, but probably as one of the more hated and tortured as well.

Paul on the other hand has been better the whole season, but got outplayed that 1 game.

if i was a jazz man, i'd pick williams. vice versa. but seriously, will it ever end!!!

i wish paul wouldn't act like ***** when playing in utah against williams.

maybe this argument would end then.

i hate it when players are good friends off the court, but don't bring any intensity on the court when playing each other. thats chris' main problem. thank god they aren't in the same division.

i wish the hornets would change divisions, cuz i'm not sure i can take another williams/paul argument

btw, whats up with williams' parents? did they have to spell it that way? everyone pronounces it wrong. just about every announcer, yet most proclaim they'd rather have him? pronounce his name right first!

oh, and kobe is cocky as ****. i would be too if i was as talented as he.

Well, at least WRT the Magic comparison...

In the Lakers' last title season (87-88), Kareem managed a beastly 14.6 ppg and 6.0 rpg during the regular season, so he was very clearly no longer a dominant anything at all. He did add 1.7 apg and 1.2 bpg but he was clearly a shell of himself, the much-heavier, much older (40 yo) remnant of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. In the playoffs, he managed 14.1 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.5 apg and 1.54 bpg and shot 7% worse (46.4%) than he did in the regular season (53.2%).

In the Finals in particular, he did very poorly except for in Game 5.

His series averages were 13.1 ppg (11 ppg in Games 1-4, 6 and 7), 4.1 rpg, 1 apg and 1.1 bpg on 41.4% shooting (36.4% shooting if you exclude Game 5).

Magic basically won a title without Kareem, that's the big difference, personality aside.
