In the west this year it doesn't matter who has the #1 seed because if Houston or Golden State is # 7 or #8, they can beat any team in the west in a series, especially Houston IMO.

yep theres lots of parity in the west this year. dont be surprised if an 8th seed beats the 1st seed again

I agree with that. Houston to me has the best chance of knocking off the spurs. For some reason they give them hell.

lol, the same team that is tied record-wise for the 8th seed. Second hottest team in the NBA with 14-3 there last 17 games. And only 5 games back of the 1st seed
Seriously people act like we still have a losing record

I agree. In fact, I don't think seeding does anything in this year's playoffs because everyone is too good and too unpredictable.

Spurs aren't likely to be the #1 seed. I'd say at most #2 or #3.

Shaq playing the worst ball of his career you say?
I see 14 points and 8 rebounds compared to 16 points and 10 rebounds, in 8 minutes less per game. Shaq was also averaging 58% shooting compared to 53%. He also puts up more blocks than marion.
Furthermore, a motivated Shaq is scary. He is in better shape and he knows how to win. He intimidates opposition, he teaches and guides teammates, and he intimidates the referees. Shaq has great court awareness and soft hands, which will be a great combination with Nash.
I dont see how this lowers their chances at a ship at all. Marion is great but they dont lose much because they have Diaw who is a similar type player, minus the 3pt shot.
If Pheonix can avoid the Spurs, I see a Suns vs Lakers final going the Suns way. Pau Gasoft wont be able to contain Amare and Bynum will choke after a couple good games against Shaq.

I've been a skeptic of the Shaq trade but I'm really trying to buy in. I saw the Steve Kerr interview on TNT and he denied all the things that you are saying in the initial post. I'm not sure if losing Marion was all that big of a loss, because he really was an egotistical malcontent who was having easily the worst year of his career thus far. Steve Kerr also said, to which Dantoni completly agree as do I, that because of the parity of the west, that sure PHX was number one, but that in no way meant that they were the best. He also said they didn't believe as good as they were that they were given championship contenders. And they feel that this gives them a better shot now that the Duncans,KGs,Yaos, etc. of the NBA can stomp a mudhole in them.
