Worst performance by broadcast team of the season?

Post#1 » by scwarrior » Fri Feb 8, 2008 9:07 pm

For me it was last night: Warriors/Bulls

Marv Albert, Reggie Miller, Mike Fratello

literally over half the game they talked about non warriors/bulls topics. Shaq, the lakers, "czar" vs. miller, reggie's playing days, on and on... absolutely horrible. When there was talk, it was just Marv saying like 3 words about the play happening, a bunch of silence, then back to the Shaq trade or The History of The Great Jim Boylan.

Then the cameras continually missed freethrows, steals, etc. and there were literally 40 pans to Jim Boylan in one half; an interim coach getting more face time than Nelson, or even coaches like Pop or Jackson would get.

There were many contreversial calls during the game that changed how the game went down, yet there was no talk of it at all (not even "wow, all the fouls calls hurt the pace of the warriors). Nothing. Fouls against both teams called when a player was not even touched. Ticky tack stuff, etc. it was a horribly officiated game and the announcers almost never even explained fouls except to always support the officials.

Marv seemed disinterested, but really is a prisoner of the terrible Miller/Fratello pairing. Soooo bad. Miller isn't a great speaker, then Fratello's insight is basically useless and he mostly talks about unrelated topics that have no bearing on the game at hand. He and miller always joust at each other in a way that is not funny and is absolutely boring.

Anyone else catch the game last night and wonder WTF was going on with the announcing? They would go four or five possessions on long unrelated stories. Awful.

Well the Bulls suck, and the warriors are decent. So them talking about other things doesnt really shock me. But Harv has passed up Marv now. Too bad we cant hear either of them in the finals though. Way better than freakin mike tirico. i miss the NBA on NBC.

I know what you mean...I wish there was an option to simply listen to the sounds of the stadium...I can't believe in this technological age a sporting league hasn't given us this option yet. I don't want your damn propaganda shoved down my throat! If you 'aint going to talk about the game, I don't want to hear your mindless commentary...

The Boston announce team vs. the Wizards.

That was an embarrassment to announcing. Heinsohn is a whiny, old, bum that needs to retire.

Marv doesn't say "YES!" enough anymore, period.

Kevin Harlan kinda owns him right now.

trust me sounds of the stadium will be cool for a few games until you realize you miss the announcers

but i want to see TNT's production try it for a game that otherwise no one would care about later in the season

Well, the play by play guy isn't bad, but the color commentator is just horrid.

Mark Jackson and jon barry are probably thw worst commentators. Theyre opinions and commentating are so generic or they say things just to say things. "What a tremendous, acrobatic play" "what a show of athleticism" just generic lines that are played out.

Coaches make interesting commentators (Doug Collins, Hubie Brown and van gundy) because they talk about strategy, what they would do, what teams should and shouldnt do...its cool to get some insight from nba coaches.

i hate it when they say chris paul is going to sign with them after his contract is up.

first of all, how delusional are they about their team? they talk like they're going to the finals, when in reality they like most teams who look to be lower seeds will have a tough time just making the playoffs. and they're so mean about other teams.

but portland? if a guy wants to leave to free agency, they want to go somewhere either close to home or somewhere fun. portland is neither of those things. just thinking about that city brings bad memories. that whole area is bad for anyone thats ever had even a mild depression.
